It had gotten cold and snowed a week or so ago, but it warmed back up to near 60 over the weekend. It is supposed to get colder again later this week. It will be time for it, as ski season is around the corner!

I had my leg warmers on, but I was the only one. I like them so I can bash through the sage as I bank my bike over around/though the sage on the edge of the trail.

Similar to their 15 year old French Oak Reserve, Nadurra has more fruit flavors, an almost creamy texture, and a long finish. I like it!

Took a road bike ride on the fixed gear.

You're a WILD MAN!

I'm probably a month's worth of weekends behind. Or at least a fortnight's. On the first weekend in Dec., we did a charity toys drive show for local kids in hospital (our town, Gainesville, is a university town in the midst of a 5 or 6-county mostly rural area, and we have 2 regional hospitals, so there are lots of kids stuck in hospital over the holidaze here). Fortunately it was still pretty warm, even though we closed the evening. ("Headlining," ha!) Had to cut set short due to law enforcement presence, but we got a pretty decent recording from the board. A couple pix:

The last couple weekends have been a LOT more mundane. Have been moving out of mi Officina at work, and trying to get all the gear I had stowed there back to Casa Krashpad.

For example, here's 3 shots of the east wall of my office, all taken from the doorway. First, after I had taken out some plastic shelving probably 4 or 5 feet tall (the space in the foreground in front of the broom):

In the above photo you can see some big ol' makeshift shelves done with concrete blocks and spare lumber (actually, the wood is from an old '80's water bed!), that the broom is leaning on. Here's a shot with the shelves taken down and the amps that were below them back at Casa Krashpad:

As you can see above, there was still one amp, the Fender Super Champ XD I use for church, left behind in its "custom amp cover" (i.e., cardboard box with handle-hole cut in it), as well as the third seat from my van, the Rockmobile.

Here's a more recent shot with no amps visible and the van bench seat gone:

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, have been setting up a PA board/"workstation" en El Garaje at Casa Krashpad. That corner of the room is centered around the shelves from the office, that just happened to fit perfectly in the space I wanted them, with the amps rolled in below, just as they had been back at La Officina.

Here's an early shot, showing the instrument amps below, a cab I'm using for the PA on the upper left, and the mixing board and PA amp below it on the right:

While doing all this setup, I put my little CD boombox, and an ancient cassette player that I found, up in the shelves so that I'd have music, and amp'd it through the PA my simply mic'ing whichever player I was using. Eventually I'll have line-outs from the CD boombox and cassette player into the PA, but mic'ing them actually works remarkably well, for now. Here's a shot of the cassette player mic'd into PA:

Subsequently lucked into a Crate bass amp for $25 on cl, and stuck it under the old Kustom 100 head:

Spent most of the weekend working on the living room floor. I'm about 2/3 done. I'll be moving my gear in here, so I finally have some motivation after putting this project off for a year +.

The doorways, plus inside and outside corners were a challenge even with a miter chop saw, table saw and a jig saw. I've cut the boards so precise, we won't have to add 1/4 round molding.

Friday, home after work, get ready for skiing.

Saturday - Coached Freeride, worked with the high school group. It was extremely cold, but we prepared for the day and had a good one. I took some film of them for a little promo for the team. My son (I am very proud of him) is the kid in brown doing straight airs. The other two kids are in blue and orange respectively. The coaches are in red coats. Here is the little vid I made:



Sunday - called off Freeride as it was even colder (-16 at the base) with huge wind chill. Called parents, etc. Then got ready to watch the Seahawks, watched the game, then took my daughter ice skating at the local rink after it had warmed up a bit. I did play some guitar as well now and then over the weekend.

That looks like a blast! Your son is lucky to grow up skiing in such a beautiful place.

Yeah, we are pretty lucky to call this place home. That run is out in "The Bowls", a series of drainages descending from the ridge they were jumping off at the beginning of the vid. Really great skiing in there as you have both leeward and windward facing aspects, and sunny and shaded aspects, so you can find a variety of conditions. And it is just a playground out there. Ungroomed, bumps, powder, trees, fun!

I feel lucky to get to coach and ski with the kids too. It is fun to watch them develop into the little rippers (well, not so little any more) they are becoming.

Friday night, played a youth event called Real Life College Faith. For the first set I wore my leather jacket, but it was too hot to wear for the last group of two songs, the only ones our photog got:

Saturday morning I played a funeral at my old church, for the grandmother of our backing singer. We threw together 2 songs the night before. Purple had been her favorite color, so I wore a purple shirt and tie:

Then this morning I played our regular 11 o'clock service back at our church. 3 shows in under 48 hours!

This one has my other two kids in it. It is really fun to be able to work on this program with my kids and all the others, and hear all the laughs and see all the smiles.

Also went for a long skate ski (nordic) with my wife and the dog yesterday.

Absolutely. You see us in that vid in places that very few people go, but that are very fun. It is part of the training to teach kids the rules of how to go in those places safely. Buddy system, all pairs enter and exit terrain in auditory and visual contact, etc. And most importantly, only with an adult until they are much older.

Inlaws coming this Thursday, so I spent Saturday putting most of my CDs into the living room, where the stereo is, so the "media cupboard" in the family room (which has doors on it) would be more cleared out to put junky-looking stuff in.

Here's the CDs, where they are now in the living room:

Believe it or not, the albums are more or less in order. The top row or so is local/FL music, followed by a row or so of non-rock including world music, jazz, blues, etc. Rock and roll (Aerosmith to ZZ Top, literally) goes from the third row down to the floor. At the end of the alphabet (by group name or artist last name) are a batch of compilations (though some are interspersed through higher-up rows as well), and at the very end are slimline cases of burned CDs.

The burned CDs on the bottom row are still a hodgepodge, as they are a bit of a pain to alphabetize since there's nothing on the spines as yet, to allow one to read the title once shelved. I'll get to that eventually though! Here's the inside of the media cupboard in the family room, as it looked before I moved most of the CDs out. The vinyl albums on the bottom, and singles on the top right (plus the old Dr. Who VHS tapes, haha), are still in it:

Sunday I spent the morning in church, all 3 songs were rockers for a change. I played the new LP Special and she came through with flying colors. Back at Casa Krashpad, did laundry and more cleanup, watched the Super Bowl, and then a late night work session finishing up some research.

Haha, true dat. By my estimate, each row, except for the last one, that has the slimline cases, has about 70 CDs per row. At a minimum, that's 560 CDs (8 rows x 70 CDs /row). But the 2/3 of the bottom row, which is slimline cases (and I'm just guessing here), probably puts me easily over the 600 CD mark. Especially if one remembers that there's probably another 2 dozen slimline-cased burned CDs (if not 3 dozen) still in the family room media cupboard. It's kinda hard to be very exact (for example, I know that in some instances I made dupe copies of the burned CDs), but at any rate I have friends who have vinyl album collections that easily dwarf what's pictured!

We celebrated my Dad's 80th birthday at my brother's house.
A highlight was seeing my nephew/brother's grandson/my father's great grandson. He's a chubby little square-headed thing, but cute!
