edit: I need to read more carefully. Apparently Dorian mode is used "over a minor 7th chord." Duh. :P But one final question. I wanna go for that Santana kind of sound. Does that usually start on the tonic of a major scale? Do I always have to start on a I chord?

Alright. I'm having trouble understanding this. I understand the whole Dorian concept.. but I don't understand, like, how to apply it to chords.. Help, please?
