Maybe you guys can help with some old guitar info

If you could post the numbers on the pots we can maybe sort out an approximate date if the electronics are American.. but I had a very similar guitar and it was of the post-'69 Asian variety and was of extremely little value (I bought it for ten bucks at a rummage sale)...this was what you'd...

    1980's Fender Champ 12

Actually I've found the mid boost usable but the OD channel as a whole is "decidedly underwhelming". and there's not a lot of room for playing around with the gain stage..it tends to be off or full-on with little variance in the middle....same with the reverb. I'm also not fond of the...

    1980's Fender Champ 12

It's not a bad amp and especially not for $200 But yes, the overdrive channel leaves much to be desired and the reverb is essentially useless. The clean channel is usable and takes OD pedals (Tube Screamers, Blues Drivers et al) well. They first appeared in about 1987 and were made in the USA...

    ES-335 Top to block union.....

Are you absolutely certain that your Washburn was MIJ? One look at that bridge and those cut aways and I can hear "SAMICK" being screamed in my head. That looks very similar to the Korean (by Samick) made Epiphones of 1986-1988....of which some have an interior rout in the center block to allow...

    Kay... again?

Once upon a time Kays were made in Chicago and they were second only to Harmony (the largest guitar maker) in terms of numbers. The focus was always on low and mid line instruments but they held their own with some pretty cool guitars until the onset of cheap Japanese imports in the mid 60s. In...

    335 1971 Epiphone

+1...The so-called Epiphone 335 actually began life as an Aria 5102 which was re-branded as an Epiphone 5102T (and TE) in 1971 when Norlin decided to compete with Japanese import competition and contracted with Matsumoku (Aria) for production of a line of LOW end guitars. This is the guitar...

    Epiphone Elitist

Not quite...the Tributes are made in China. Elitists were made at either Fuji gen (solid bodies) or Terada (semi hollows) in Japan. What has happened is Epiphone took the marketing points of the higher-end, Japanese-made Elitists and applied them to the Chinese-made Les Paul Tributes. The...

    Sheraton

I have to agree with Mark here that there hasn't been a lot of change in electronics over the last ten years other than the change around 2001 to a more-vintage sounding pickup in Epiphone's version of the '57 Classic from what I think was a hotter, ceramic pickup used previously. I'm not real...

    Sheraton

A few months back I posted this in another forum as a sort of short history of the Sheraton. I'm going to add that "Wine Red" was a standard color (signified by "WR" after the model name on the interior label) on the Matsumoku-made Sheratons of 1980-1988 and cherry red was offered for a very...

    New Guy

Hello everyone. My name is Greg and I'm a guitaraholic...errrmm...I'm fifty five years old and from Southeast Michigan. I've been trying to learn to play since about 1966 and have taken money, under false pretenses, playing in bands on and off (always off even when on) since about 1969. I was...

    epiphone identificatio

No Strummy, just some photos I've acquired. After your post "over there" about your friend I came here and checked the place out and since I'm really in need of a change of scenery, I thought I'd stick around. I thought about giving your as a referral but then I thought...maybe he wouldn't...

    epiphone identificatio

If the model number on the interior label is stated as "5102 TE" then the instrument was made in 1971. In late 1970 after domestic Epiphone production ceased in August of 1970, Matsumoku (parent company of Aria, Westone, Lyle, et al) was contracted by Norlin (Gibson's then parent corporation)...
