Boss FRV-1 '63 Fender Reverb pedal

I got one of these pedals a few weeks back. I'm having a blast with it. I've got it connected after the FDR-1 '65 Deluxe pedal (on an overdrive setting) and before the FBM-1 '59 Bassman pedal (on bright clean input). Cool blues reverb when used after the '65 Deluxe pedal on overdrive, and...

    Callaham Strat upgrade kit

Having read about the improvements the Callaham parts can make to a Strat, I took the plunge a little while back and bought the American Standard Strat "Premium Upgrade Kit". This kit comprises vintage style saddles (replacing the horrible "block" saddles that came stock on my '06 USA Strat), a...

Speaker upgrade for Hot Rod Deluxe

Well I was interested in changing the speaker because I'd heard that this can improve the sound and I'd read good reports of the V30...ultimately though, yes, it would be good if I could ditch the Z Air Brake attenuator (or at the very least not have to use it in anger like I do now), very good...

Speaker upgrade for Hot Rod Deluxe

Yes, I did mean the Eminence 1258. Seems like the Celestion Vintage 30 may not be the best choice, although I wonder if that would be also hold true if I decide to put THD Yellow Jackets in the amp. Decisions, decisions!

Speaker upgrade for Hot Rod Deluxe

The OD channel uses a linear pot for sure. When I spoke to an amp tech recently about this...the clean channel (the only I use) already uses an audio taper pot. According to him, placing with a higher value one may help (say a 500K pot) but not a great deal apparently. He said the Air Brake (or...

Speaker upgrade for Hot Rod Deluxe

Some interesting suggestions here y'all. Even with the Z Air Brake attenuator (which I think is very good btw), this amp is a volume beast! I am, overall, generally happy with the sound I can get at bedroom practise levels with this amp (I do live in a detached house!), my ME-50 (I run the amp...

Speaker upgrade for Hot Rod Deluxe

Thanks for the comments everyone. As it happens I was actually talking to an amp tech the other day, who claimed that the Vintage 30 will make the HRDx seem even louder than the stock Eminence speaker as it's more efficient. That is NOT the result I was looking for with the HRDx! It's already...

Speaker upgrade for Hot Rod Deluxe

Thanks for your input mrmudcat! Can I ask... Which HRDx limited edition do you own? Do you find this speaker to be really loud? (the HRDx is loud enough with the stock Eminence speaker, and then some!). I have read the Century Vintage is considerably quieter than both the stock Eminence...

Speaker upgrade for Hot Rod Deluxe

I'm thinking of upgrading the speaker in my Hot Rod Deluxe. I like Celestion speakers and these can be had for very good prices this side of the pond, although their prices are going up on 1st October...hence why I want to get one ordered soon. I've read both good and bad things about the two...

    BOSS GE-7 EQ pedal

Thanks for all the comments everyone...much appreciated. I received the pedal today, just waiting for some extra cables to arrive so I can try it out. I'll experiment with it in different parts of the signal chain and see how I get on with it. I also found this rather interesting link for GE-7...

    BOSS GE-7 EQ pedal

Wow! Thanks for a VERY informative and useful post wingsdad. I didn't realise that the pedal could have such a big impact pre-ME50. That's awesome. I can't wait until it arrives to try it out the way you suggest. As it happens I did look at the MXR 10 band but went for the Boss mainly because...

    BOSS GE-7 EQ pedal

Anyone on here using this pedal? Any opinions on it? Anyone know where I can find any useful settings info on it? I ask because I've ordered one today, admittedly on a bit of a whim, but it seems an EQ pedal is very much a "must have" item and should actually be the first pedal you buy (that's...

Any Hot Rod Deluxe fans on this forum?

Yes the ME-50 is a multi-FX unit only (no amp modelling) and it's designed to go before an amp's input, not in the FX loop. In fact there is no option to put it in the FX loop. At the moment the signal path is this: GUitar -> ME-50 -> HRDx In fact Iv'e just taken a closer look at the HRDx "FX...

Any Hot Rod Deluxe fans on this forum?

Interesting thread developing here... Now with my Boss ME-50 in the chain would it not go like this...assuming I bought a ToneLab or even one of those new Fender-branded BOSS 'modeller' pedals (the "Bassman" pedal is rather tempting): Guitar -> BOSS ME-50 -> modeller (with onboard FX bypassed)...
