    John Martyn R.I.P

I was just about to start exactly the same thread. Another unsung hero passes away and most people with never hear his brilliant, brilliant music. It's about time people started listening to music that enriches lives, rather than enriching Simon Cowell's bank balance!

    Desert Island Discs!

No, will be just a pile of sand in the middle of the ocean with one single palm tree, as is traditional with desert islands. :)

    Desert Island Discs!

    8 individual songs, I'm afraid!

    Hi From The Old Country

The SG Junior is a real "stripped-for-action" guitar, and has a really nice sound. I played mine at a gig recently and never once felt like I wanted to switch to the neck pickup (just as well, really, ha ha!). I have heard it said that the juniors had a better sound than the specials, because...

    Good Gigs on Route 66

Screaming Dave from the UK, here! I'm coming over to the US in April to drive the whole of Route 66 with some buddies. We fly into Chicago on April 17th, and we're looking for some good gigs or music venues along the route. Any ideas?

my first encouter with a ES-335.

I had an Ibanez AS83, which was a 335-a-like. I really liked it. Gibson do a new one with a smaller body, but the same scale length, which I'd like to have a go on. It's called a 339, I think.

    Desert Island Discs!

Over here in the UK we have a long-running radio programme called "Desert Island Discs". The pretext is that a celebrity is going to be marooned on a desert island, and they can only take 8 records with them (well, it used to be records, but now it's CDs of course!) So each week they have a...

    Hi From The Old Country

My Strat was my main squeeze for about 8 years, but then I bought a Gibson SG Standard on a whim, and ended up buying a second one as my backup. Then I decided I needed another guitar to get a different sound, so I got an SG Junior, with just a single P90! :)

    Hi From The Old Country

Thanks againor your warm welcome, everyone! regarding GAS, I actually just SOLD a guitar. Since becoming a Gibson man I've hardly played my Strat, so I'm afraid she had to go. Still, I have a bit of cash to spend now ............ :)

Initial thoughts after joining a band

I just joined a band, too. A bit nerve-wracking, really. I'd been in the same band with a bunch of buddies for about 15 years, then I moved away and my swansong with that band was at my own wedding. then one of the other dad's at my kids' school advertised for other musicians to form a band...

    Oriental Carpets

Steve Howe from Yes is renowned for having his own carpet on stage. I read an interview with him, and he reckoned he just did it to have his own space.

    Oh those regrets

I worked out recently that I've owned 57 guitars in my life, and I now have 6 left, so I guess I have 51 regrets in my life! :)

Flame / Quilt / Abalone on Guitars

Mostly I prefer my guitar's quite plain. It breaks my heart to see young kids spending their hard earned bucks on a first guitar that looks really pretty because of the fancy veneer and abalone, gold hardward and mother of pearl, but then it sounds awful and the trem doesn't work properly...

    Hi From The Old Country

Hey, thanks for the warm welcome, guys. Thought I'd be in deep GAS trouble in April as I'm coming over there to drive Route 66 with a bunch of buddies, but now the pound isn't worth the paper it's printed on any more, I won't be able to afford to buy anything over there anyway. I'm gonna have...

New Squier Bullet.... nice but, problems with frets!!

If you're feeling brave, you can polish the fret yourself. You'll have to use masking tape to protect the fretboard. make sure the tape is right up against each fret, then use fine wire wool to polish the frets. If it's a rosewood neck it's a good idea to rub in a bit of lemon oil into the...
