    What is your weapon?

I put Les Paul although my Gordon Smith GS2 is more like a double cut-away Jnr. It's my only electric. I go through phases of playing my Dean acoustic more.

Three cheers for my digitally-challenged brethren!

You have to admire the determination of those who have to work through something like losing a finger to work out how they can still play. I came close to cutting off my left index finger when I was 20. I was careless with a table saw and it sliced into the back of the finger. The outcome was a...

Hear the new Peter Gabriel album

I really like some of the songs. My Body is a Cage is excellent. In general it reminds me a little of some of the covers of modern songs that Johnny Cash did, like Hurt and Personal Jesus. I'm also a sucker for a good orchestral arrangement. When I heard PG was doing a tour with no guitars or...

    Clip-on tuners

I'm happy with the Korg. It's sensitive and easy to read. It's actually so sensitive that I managed to tune my electric with it clipped on the headstock when I had it it microphone mode rather than piezo. It works better in piezo mode. I don't need the light at home, but there are 2 brightness...

    Hello from England

Hi Scott. I'm not too far away from you. I was in a rock covers band with some guys from around Flitwick, but that fizzled out. These days I'm playing at an acoustic jam session near Hitchin. I like a bit of rock, but am into my acoustic for now.

    Clip-on tuners

I ordered the Korg from StringsDirect (UK) yesterday and got it today! By the time I included some strings and a cable I had enough for free next-day delivery. The tuner is tiny, about the size of my thumb. Looks like it should be readable. The clip looks a little fragile, so I'll be careful...

    Clip-on tuners

Tio, Thanks for that. I see two versions of the AW-2. The AW-2G model is nearly half the price of the other with the only difference seeming to be that it comes with a single clip suitable for guitars. I think I'll go for that one.

    Clip-on tuners

I'm looking to get one of these for my acoustic. It may get used for my daughter's violin as well. They seem to range in price from around UKP10-45. Any recommendations? The more recent Deans have a built-in tuner, but mine doesn't.

The best looking guitar ever made

I'm not sure any normal Strat or even Les Pail would be in the running for best looking when there are so many amazing looking guitars hand made by small-scale luthiers. Just look at what this guy does http://www.divine-jones.com/ I don't go so much for the fancy carvings, but some of his...

Parkers Guitars love them or hate them?

I like the idea of Parker guitars, but have never played one. I like to see companies moving guitar technology along instead of just building clones of 50 year old designs. I was considering getting a Tele-type axe, but would like to try the P36 as an alternative. With my budget I could only...

5 Year Old Drummer, Jonah Rocks

    He's amazing. I couldn't drum that well.

Cassette tapes to make a comeback?

I think mine was Queen's Night at the Opera. As a student I had a tape deck, but no record player. I ended up buying more vinyl and taping it as you got a better package that way, but I was taping every album I could get my hands on. That was in the days when you had to copy in real time. I've...

What major groups do we have on TheFret?

I'll listen to just about any music genre and can probably find something interesting in most of them. My general listening covers a wide range. I'm not sure what genre some of it would fall into. As far as playing the guitar goes I've done classical, blues, rock and some acoustic. I'm currently...

    Ubuntu 9.10

I've been using Ubuntu for a couple of years. Have done a couple of installs and some upgrades. Some of the latter resulted in problems that took a while to sort out. I upgraded this time from 9.04 and it went very smoothly. I use Kubuntu as I just prefer KDE. I still have a few problems, some...

Great Article on The Edge's Stage Gear

The whole U2 tour seems to be over the top with them having several of their massive stages so they can put them up in advance. I can understand wanting particular gear in the studio, but are the audience going to notice the differences between all those guitars, let alone if the strings were...
