    Pod 2 or Pocket Pod

The following is my opinion and by no means "the" answer to the debate: If you are on a POD 2.0 budget, I would go the Pocket POD route. The pocket POD has all the POD 2.0 offers plus USB connectivity, super portability, and patch download/editing. The pocket POD is not too fiddly once you...

    Less is more - sometimes

I am a huge fam of this guy's videos on YouTube. He plays with a purpose and a message. And what he plays matters. It is not a bunch of strung together notes flurrying as fast as possible without meaning. Great playing has meaning, and Lister is a great player in my eyes.

    Interview with Scott Henderson

Scott's guitar playing is a lot like Coltrane's sax playing. Every time I listen, I hear the subtleties and nuances of idea bending and outside tones, and I shake my head in pleasurable disbelief.

    John Mayer

How anyone can lessen the abilities and talents of an exceptional player is beyond me. I have been a Mayer fan ever since I heard Try!; he is an incredibly talented musician, guitar player, and songwriter. What is there not to like?

    my new amp [aka: amph]

Awesome amp! I had a first generation Microcube for about three years until I upgraded to the Cube 20X, which is a phenomenal amp, too. Congratulations; you'll love your new cube. :AOK:

    Hello everyone!

Welcome, Mark. I love your tone with that Tele. Your lesson videos are clear, practical, and easily applicable. Thanks for sharing.

    Ecellent German blues guitarist

Thanks, Jimi75. This was a real treat. Gregor has stellar touch on the instrument and all of his notes have purpose. Good stuff.

    Peavey Valveking 112 Combo

I did play with the resonance switch, too. And I should have given it more time for speaker break in. The first few days I loved it. After time, however, I realized it was just too far away from what I wanted to hear. Tone is subjective, and many people love the Valve Kings amps.

help needed, the best small practice amp!

Hey, Lev. I ordered a G-DEC Junior as well. I was sold on the tones I heard and the select-and-go jam settings this little thing offers. I detest LCD screens and menus, so the Junior was a no brainer when I was looking for a looper/backing track practice amp. Mine is being shipped to my...

    Peavey Valveking 112 Combo

I tested one out for a while. At low volumes, it sounded great (if you like gainy tones -- I do). Once you start to pump the volume up, the tone got brittle and harsh, no matter what eq or "texture" switch changes I made. Many people have complained about needing a speaker replacement with...

GFS Lil' Killer Bridge pickup 17+K impedance

+1 I had a lil' killer (10K) in a homemade Strat once, and the pickguard required modifications to accomodate the larger-sized pickup. I used a rotary tool and skimmed a little around the pickup cavity to accomodate the extra girth. The tone of that pickup was very lacking. I tried it in...

    Build your own guitar ?

Try a Carvin Bolt Kit. I built two in the past, and they are second to none -- high quality and still reasonably priced. They are priced at about $400+ now, but when I built my kits they were about $300.00.

Just got a Strat, annoying fret issue

After looking at the pictures, taking it back is your best choice. It looks like that one got through QC somehow.

Just got a Strat, annoying fret issue

Luckily this is an easy fix. Remove strings. Put masking tape on the side of each fret, exposing only the frets. Get 00000 grade steel wool (at any Home Depot) and ball up a tiny piece. Run that tiny balled up steel wool back and forth evenly across each fret until you get a smooth...

Agile LP copy vs. Kit guitar... Thoughts?

I would go with the Carvin Kit. If country is your thing, then opt for a maple fret board. The standard SSS pick guard includes a mini-switch that allows you to turn the bridge single coil on or off, giving you tele-like tone options. I built two kits about five years ago and loved them...

    The dude from Gearwire!

Dan Augustino seems like a nice guy -- mellow, not flashy or cocky. His playing is very real, much like the average Joe (or Jane) Hobbyist. But his lack of experience and knowledge of the products can be disappointing. He has one of the coolest jobs on the planet -- sample and play around...

    Peavey Generation EX GAS

Spud, You just did the equivalent of throwing a five-gallon tank of gas on a brush fire. The amount of GAS now is overwhelming. That Tele is beautiful and the exact color I want. A few questions, however: 1. How is the intonation on the ash-tray barrel bridge? Can you get it spot on? 2. Do...
