What type of music do you wish you could play better?

I need to set some musical goals -- I'm all over the map. I grew up playing a lot of folk, so am completely comfortable finger picking. I wish I had that same level of comfort comping some cool rock riffs, a bit of funk and blues-styled soloing to boot. Is that too much to ask?

    Steve Jobs has died

It's a sad day to be sure. I've had a Mac on my desk for all but two of the past 25 years, and that made my job easier and more enjoyable.

    Paul Simon in Berlin

He's really such an amazing musician. Just saw a 1960’s era documentary called "Songs of America," on PBS the other day. Really fun to see quality performance footage of Paul and Art.

    What's a good first amp

I would never argue AGAINST a good tube amp, but my 4-yr-old Vox AD30VT has been an awesome first amp for me. I am forever playing around with the amp models, though don't use the onboard affects much since I got the M13. A buddy of mine who plays out professionally has borrowed it for gigs...

What are you GASsing for next?

Wow! That sounds pretty much exactly like what I want. The price is about what I would have expected to pay, so saving my pennies. I'll have to put my hands on it. Let me know what you think when you get yours, Monkus!

TV Rant - I hate that thing

Amen! Imagine how much more I could improve my guitar if I substituted 1/2 the time we spend watching TV playing music. Stress would be reduced as well! My wife and I watch more than TV than we should, but have started playing games and putting on music more often. So when we do watch TV...

A song for my daughter's wedding

Thanks, Eric. I'm glad you liked the song -- it sure has been fun to start songwriting. I feel like I'm sort of in the "fingerpainting" stage, but I am loving it. I'll try micing up the acoustic next time. Perhaps the SM57 or 58 (or both) would give a better result, at least until I get a...

A song for my daughter's wedding

Thanks for the comments. I welcome feedback of all kinds. I'm very new at songwriting, so appreciate the chance to learn from others (or just hear what people like or don't like). Dave

A song for my daughter's wedding

Hey all, I thought I'd share a song that I wrote and performed for my daughter's wedding (which just happened on June 18). It was a great day! The version that I posted to the link below is the demo version that I recorded using a simple Garageband set up (M-Audio Mobile-Pre USB, Shure SM58...

Show us your Line-6 M13/M9 custom scene settings

This would appear to be a good place: http://www.vettaville.nl/page.php?id=89 You can load and view settings once you've logged in and viewed the patches tab.

    Acoustic Amp Reccomendations

I'm an Ultrasound DS4 user -- and enthusiast. For the money, the DS4 had all the sound quality, power, inputs, outputs affects, and portability that I was looking for. http://www.ultrasoundamps.com/image-viewer-ds4.htm I can wholeheartedly recommend Ultrasound.

Have you tried pedals w/ Vox ADxxVT ?

I use my M13 with all kinds of effects with my AD30VT set to bypass mode. I have been happy with the sounds (if not the playing).

    The weekend Thread

We had a very satisfying weekend, both musically and with family: Thursday night: My wife and I had our monthly viewing of Minneapolis-based Steely Dan cover band (appropriately named "Steeling Dan.") It's salve for the soul. Friday night: We went to a concert of brothers Matt and Dan Wilson...

Line 6 Spider Valve MkII 112

Nice video. I find myself listening more to your playing than comparing the sounds, so thanks for the great performances. One question: Apart from the amp modeling options on this amp, would there be any benefit to an M13/M9 user plugging in to an amp like this, or is there a lot of overlap...

    A rant (church band content)

While frustrating, it's refreshing to hear that there are others who experience these kinds of difficulties. We're in the process of rebuilding our sanctuary to update seating, sound, lighting, etc. in order to enable our traditional and contemporary services to worship in a common space (after...

    Apple's new iPad

I need to try one out, but think it would be a great "living room and kitchen" computer for browsing, email and social networking. A lot better than a netbook or a smartphone for those kinds of tasks. A 32Gb non-3G for me!
