Rocket, do you have to use the flux with that solder? I thought solder usually had flux in it? What about this stuff - http://www.ares-server.com/Ares/Ares.asp?MerchantID=RET01229&Action=Catalog&Type=Product&ID=60664 seems easier to apply :rotflmao:

Thanks for the Solder suggestion! Actually what I did at around 8pm didnt fix it at all. It was temporary. It went out at about 1230 again. So I just un-soldered everything, cleaned it all up (with the braid) and steel wool, stripped the wires, got a new connection, and soldered the ground...

Than you guys for the suggestions! I ended up just stripping the wire again, and resoldering. That iddnt work, so I got pissed off and just soldered all over the ground and the neutral wire. That fixed the problem, :bravo: The ohm meter thing was really cool!

The tone pots dont move at all really. I dunno if thats normal. The bridge volume works, it goes to 0 and then if i turn the vol down to 0 it goes back to 5. That is with the setting on RX1000 The neck switch never goes to 0, and stays around 5. Even if I turn it, it will not move. Sound...

Well I say they are fine as in they do not look broken, all the wires are where they should be....I took the input jack out too just to make sure it was still soldered in.

All of those connections are fine. The guitar was working perfectly until today when I installed new knobs. When I went to play it, the amp is dead. Both amps, actually. And there is no effects of anything, straight guitar into amp. :reallymad: :reallymad: :reallymad: :reallymad:

Is it possible to actually break a pot by pulling the speed knob off a les paul? I wired in my pickups a few days ago and the guitar plays great and most importantly, sounds good too. Today I got my new speedknobs in, and after I put them on I plugged up and nope. No sound at all. Chcked my...

    pickup selection for les paul..

Red - thanks for the response. Since posting I have read a good bit. I ended up getting a 40w soldering iron. I read the stuff about the gun - yikes! I dont have any of the stuff that soaks up the old solder :/ I gotta find that somewhere. There is a radioshack close by. I ended up...

    pickup selection for les paul..

How about a SH-15? Also - how difficult is it to install pickups? I have used a soldering iron before, but the one I have is 100w, so thats too much. So since I know how to solder, is this going to be something that is extremely difficult? I would prefer to not take the guitar somewhere. I...

    Canadian made Tube Amps

Peters supposedly makes good amps too. Just from what I read somewhere. I have no experience with them.. :AOK:

And vice versa for me. I want to get a Luke, but it isnt top priority right now. The JP6 guitars are awesome. I have always liked Dream Theater, but I never paid any attention to signature models and I always thought those were reserved for the people who wanted to pay a premium to the same...

    pickup selection for les paul..

I am partial to Dimarzio pickups.. Use their pickup selector thing. It gives you three choices. Also, these things sound good: www.wbpickups.com Watch their videos on youtube. The cleans and the blues / rock stuff they roll out of those sounds incredible. Not my cup of tea though :)

    hey from nc.

Been reading here the past week or so and finally decided to join. Lots of information on here! I have been playing about, jeez, 12 years (now that I think about it that makes me sound old!). I started when I was 15 when my granddad gave me his acoustic guitar - which actually turned out to...

    pickup selection for les paul..

Awesome. That is what I wanted to hear! Thanks! If I am successful on this I am going to try to get some ideas on strat pickups. Not for metal play though, but for cleans and blues like gain.

    pickup selection for les paul..

Hey guys, been reading here the past few days and finally decided I would register. I have a quick question, and then I will go make a post about what I play etc - but this one has to do with my Les Paul. Bottom line is - I hate the pickups that are in it. I honestly do not know which...
