No single-ended tube amp is going to give anything like clean tone, ever, at any volume. I guess it's how one defines "clean". Single-ended tube amps are a lot of fun; I would cite caution about expectations of glassy jazz clean tones.

I've had it with getting decent tubes. The ART TubePAC actually has a tube in the audio path that won't bust your bank account. There are several very reasonably-priced MOS-FET jobs out there that sing even better with the TubePAC. I have no interest in ART. Try it.

Can't see the lines anyhow, there or not, when playing. Side dots do it for me. That said, gotta be REAL careful with the fretless, which includes the intonation of all the other instruments in the ensemble. I am far too insecure to use a fretless with strangers.

I like my '15R more the more I play it. Just for S&G's I set it up with the volume dimed and use the gain control for volume, similar to older amps that didn't have separate volume and gain controls. It works great that way, with max shimmer/chime. This is a fine inexpensive amp.
