I've been doing a lot of research into PCs recently (building another one myself at the end of the year, hopefully) and I agree with Eric - get a Z68 motherboard. IIRC the CPU can't be overclocked properly unless you're using a Z68 or one of the others...can't remember which one though.

For Standard tuning I use 10s on electric and 12s on acoustic. I use heavier strings most of the time though as I drop-tune a lot; I'm currently using 12-60s in C Standard although I'm swapping to 11-54s in Drop-C next time I change strings.

I personally like the whole double-kick-drum/growled vocals thing, especially the sudden changes to it that Opeth use. But I know what you mean, it's not to everyone's taste and it can definitely get boring after a while. They're not strictly the same genre as Opeth, but you might want to check...

Depends what I'm playing. If it's going to involve palm-muting I tend to keep my hand as close to the bridge as possible, and use my thumb and one finger to hold the pick. I do the same for lead playing as I find I can play faster that way. If it doesn't involve palm muting then I tend to hold...
