Hello! I'm new here! But I'm not new to guitar. My name is Shane, I'm 22, and I'm a Luthier working at a local music store over here on the east coast! I have a slight problem. I recently purchased what I think is a 1989-1990 MIJ '62 reissue Strat. But I'm not so sure. The pickups aren't quite right in my opinion. Would you guys be able to help me identify the pickups in this strat? I'm assuming there been replaced as I don't think they are stock. I thought the stock ones were plastic wire. These guys are cloth covered and then dipped in wax it seems like. all the wire is clother covered but only the pickup wires are wax covered too. All looks super high quality. Guitar is beat up but I love it. I paid $280 for it and not looking back. Anyway, any way you guys can help identify this girl? The pickups are marked "1R". Any help would be appreciated!!

I asked a friend who is a very experienced luthier and guitar tech to take a look at your photos, and this is his response. The guy knows his stuff, so I would consider this information to be highly reliable:

"That guitar is a Japanese Stratocaster. It's not actually a 62 Reissue because they never made them in that color. It would be what was called a Vintage Series.

The pick ups are Seymour Duncan. Absolutely no question about that."

Thank you!!!! But I did read that seafoam green was one of the 12 colors available. That source could be wrong though

Hmm, your photos look more like Surf Green than Seafoam Green--not as dark and blue as the latter, though the colors in photos can be misleading. See comparative photo below.

In any case, your primary question was about the pickups, and my buddy was very certain on that point.

During my time at Fender, there were slight variations on the colors of Japanese Strats. I myself have seen been differences in the white. The color on the picture looks pretty original to me - its sea foam green.
