I heard this on the radio today and loved it. I forgot it existed. They did not announce the artist but I guessed it was either Cracker, or these guys. After watching just a bit of the vid, I realized it could be no one else. But I digress,

I always kinda liked this song, as it reminds me of the birth of MTV back when it was fun, and when I was a college student having tons of fun. I like this cover even more in some ways. It looks pretty easy, and I am going to learn it just for fun and to nourish my punky/indy rock side. Check it out, and post your own quirky cover:

BONUS TRACK:

extra quirky cover by the Presidents joined by Weird Al and his accordian. Bad sound quality, but too quirky to pass up!

Steve, if you're looking for punked up covers I highly recommend checking these guys out...

They can even make this incredibly cheesy song sound cool...

Enjoy.

Glen Campbell with a cool guitar singing "By the Time I Get to Phoenix"

Here's a quirky cover of a quirky song:

In fact, David Lindley does lots of quirky covers:

And finally, one of my favorite quirky covers (and a nod to R_of_G):

Nice.

That's going in my ever-expanding playlist of versions of that song.

Speaking of which, start this video at the 1:50 mark and enjoy. :)

One of my favorite things Ribot has done and a huge influence on the way I approach my own solo arrangements of covers.

None more quirky than Sad Kermit's "Hurt"!

Then there are the covers that are better than the original...

The Lemonheads - Mrs. Robinson

Alien Ant Farm - Smooth Criminal

I dedicate this one to "That Metal Show Host" Eddie Trunk

Hot darn I did it :thumbsup

One for all you country fans.... (I think SVL should learn this one... either version.).:R

Neil Young's version........quirky? Yeah, I think so.

Dedicated to every loser who screams out "Freebird!" at every concert no matter the band...

Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit

I know this isn't a cover, but...
I love how they thumbed their noses at having to "perform" this for BBC's "Top of the Pops"!

I figure many of you already know The Gourds, but here's the famous one:

I can't even count how many times I had to tell people that cover wasn't Phish and then argue with them when they insisted they were right despite the fact that I could show them the setlists of every single Phish show played after that song was written. It's amazing what one mislabeled MP3 can do.
