Zombie films, anyone?

I like a good dystopian film now and then. Something about them that keeps me interested. Zombie flicks are a genre that has a lot of pure cr*p films but some pretty classic cuts as well.

I just watched the British 5-part mini-series 'Dead Set', and it was maybe the best Zombie production I've seen. Very much like '28 Days/Weeks Later' duo, which were also pretty intense and well made films.

I always liked Romero's originals the best in the genre, but Dead Set was a very very intense series; fun and adrenaline-raising at the same time, and totally different as they feature the modern, 'fast' style zombies. Well recommendable for anyone into horror. Turn off the lights and up the volume and watch alone, as with all good horror. Works. It can be found online in HD too, although I watched it in DVD quality to preserve bandwidth.

I also watched some 35 minutes of the 2008 version of 'Day of the Dead' and couldn't even finish it, mindless and logicless, just plain waste of film. Just goes to show there are plenty of bad zombie flicks too.

I'm a big fan of zombie films. Recently watched "Pontypool", which isn't a zombie film per se, but there is definitely a zombie vibe there. Fascinating film. More of my favorites include Fido, Shaun of the Dead (can't help but love that one), Return of the Living Dead (classic), and of course the 28 Days/Weeks movies. I saw a Spanish zombie movie recently called REC (as in "record" on a video camera) that was good, especially the end. There's more than enough bad zombie movies out there, but they can be fun as well, if you're in the mood for a bad film.

I really dig those movies as well...I'm sure you'd love Dead Set then. It's not only in-your-face like 28's and similar in style but it's also full of (very well) hidden black humor and criticism about society's standards, Big Brother etc.

"Zombieland" is great. I just saw it last week. I was one of three people in the theater though. I imagine it would be much better with a full house.

Zombie fans should check out this really cool book by Max Brooks,
World War Z, An Oral History of the Zombie War

It is an entertaining, interesting, and highly addictive book to read. It is like a collection of fictitious interviews with various people around the world and covers the entire time line of a war against zombies.

I remember seeing Dawn of the Dead back in the early '80s , that gave me a few sleepless nights, lately 28 Days Later was the pick of the bunch , I`ll defineatly check out Zombie land and Dead Set , I`m not really a big fan of horror but something keeps dragging me back in . Cue Drag me to hell that was quite good along the lines of Raimi`s Army of Darkness but the last great film i saw was District 9 .

Me neither; I don't watch 'slasher porn' and lots and lots of horror films, but I enjoy watching a good one now and then immensely. The last film I watched andreally felt disturbing was 'Them', it's a French flick.

I haven't seen that movie in years. I forgot how funny it was while they were trying to gross us out. :crazyguy

I almost forgot Black Sheep (again, not truly a zombie film, but in the genre, and hilarious), Dead Snow (some very unique ways to kill zombies in this one), and one that I particularly enjoyed, although it is disturbing, Deadgirl. I love the Romero films as well, and Raimi films are great horror/comedy flicks. One more that I highly recommend is Dead and Breakfast. A bonus; it features some decent rockabilly. Definitely worth watching!!

Zombies?

Evil dead were my favs for a long time........ But dawn of the dead and land of the dead came along and i was hooked..

Even though zombies are my phobia..

I have both 28days later and 28 weeks later. different by their definitions.

I second Black Sheep. Another great film from New Zealand: Braindead (A.K.A. Dead Alive). You can watch the entire movie on youtube. It's directed by Peter Jackson and a step up from Black Sheep.

Yeah, Braindead was such a hit when I was in highschool, what a riot. And Bad Taste, even more priceless. Man, those are crazy funny sick flicks.

I just watched Zombieland...the beginning 30 minutes was quite a riot & very promising and fresh indeed, but towards the middle and end it degenerated to soap opera and there was zero drama, action or anything really. Could have mistaken it for any TV drama. And the final shootout was pretty basic as well, failed to lift the spirits up properly, just lots of shooting and running around and it felt like the writer at that point had just given up. I mean, it starts with the characters being clever survivors and by the end they are like idiotic sheep doing everything the least sensible way, just bang bang galore with all logic blown to hell. Especially the ladies turn from merciless, bright crooks to brainless helpless chicks. Not a bad flick by any means, but a slight disappointment anyhow...someone should shot the screenwriter
