New Band Demo - Portrait

Hey guys,

My new jazz-fusion band, Portrait, recently did a demo recording using a guy with a mobile recording studio. It was a pretty fun process. He took a post-EQ DI out of my Tonehammer head. I used either a jazz bass or my new G&L M2500. See if you can guess the bass on each song!

So far, I've only been listening at work with cruddy little computer speakers that don't handle bass. I'll post the site, but I still have little idea on how my bass came out.

The problem I always tend to have with jazz-fusion is that I have no idea where the heck the pocket is. As a bass player, it confuses me. Definitely some talented playing there. That much I could tell. But it's hard for me to comment on jazz-fusion when so much of it is bewildering to my heavy metal head.

Ah yeah Marnold, the drumming is so frenetic that I have a tough time playing something appropriate. It was done as a "live" recording and it was hard for me to tell exactly what his kick drum was doing beneath the toms and cymbals next to me ears.

There really is no pocket there to speak of. It's far busier playing than I'm used to and I think went overboard with it.

I've been meaning to listen to this, but when I've thought about it I've either only had my phone with a bad connection or I have been at work without headphones.

I don't even have a clear picture of what jazz-fusion music is without listening to it.

After listening to it with headphones, I can hear much more.

I was far too busy with my bass playing. I hope you guys enjoy Wayne's guitar playing. That guy is awesome.

There's a lot going on in there. I don't really know or understand jazz fusion, so it's hard for me to say if you were too busy or not. The drummer seemed really nutty, but maybe that's just how it goes with this type of music.
