    New Carvin micro $$$

Huh? Steep price? Does anyone know of another true three channel with boost, reverb, effects loop, tri-power mode, all-tube, made in USA head for less? If so, let me know. I think $599 is extremely reasonable.

    Best value acoustic pickups

The Lace California soundhole pickup isn't at all bad--better than most at balancing the B string. I use one with a Boss GT-3 and get pretty convincing plugged in tones on my Carvin Cobalt acoustic. They can be found at Guitar Center every now and again for around $50 when they run a special.

How many watt speaker for 15 watt tube head

Anything 25 Watts or higher and you'll be fine.

    Is Steven Tyler quiting Aerosmith?

If, for whatever reason, the band decides to work for a couple of years without Tyler, I highly recommend Eric Dover as a temporary fill-in. You can catch him singing lead for Slash here (note: ffw to the 3:45 mark) and singing in one of his own bands here.

    Which Dano tremolo?

    ^^What he said.

    Bugera V22

Not to appear to endorse the Bugera, but this guy is treating them like they're a 1:1 comparison and they're not. The vox has a different tone stack, one channel with top boost, much more reverb, etc. The Bugera has a three knob tone stack and who knows what else is different about its design...

    your EQ settings?

On a normal day (in an average room) my L5's fender-ish channel will be set as: Bass 3-4, Mids 5-6, Treble 4-5. Pretty standard. Don't need much EQ to get a good workmanlike tone out of that amp.

    Blues DeVille volume

Don't know what to tell you on Deville other than invest in a power attenuator. If anyone is looking at the Deluxe amps, there are instructions on how to convert them to use JJ 6v6 tubes. I helped a friend do this mod and it made a huge difference! The OD came to life and the amp had a...

    cleans with a PA.

I think it might be a struggle at that power rating. I would feel better if it were 400 watts a side to get the guitars and vocals through intelligibly.

How do YOU EQ your amp?

I start with everything set to 5. No treble boost, low input on a twin-style amp. I usually trim the highs a bit to compensate for my overdrive and don't do a lot more fiddling with the amp. I usually use the guitar's tone knob to adjust between settings for neck and bridge p/ups.

SS vs Tube side by side -- ouch

SS are absolutely not inferior to tube amps by necessity, they are just different. I have used both for years and there are still situations (usually regarding number of effects and the style of music I'm playing) where I will prefer the SS amp's ability to retain definition with a lot of stuff...

    Contact pickup adhesive?

Hello all. Just wondering what adhesives some of you have used on interior contact pickups. I'm leery of double sided tape and am wondering what kinds of alternatives there are to attach something like a piezo ribbon (PUTW) or the McIntyre feather. I'm sick and tired of the quack...

    Crate V5 mods... anyone?

If you're at all familiar with soldering and the risks of probing into a tube amp, then it's well worth it. I couldn't stand the sound of mine before the mods, but now I love it. I did all the non-committal mods (speaker, tube changes) before I routed around the op-amp and it still sounded...

Anyone Gig with a Solid State Amp??

I've gigged with my L5 a few times and other solid state amps in the past. You can get fine tones out of them, but you have to understand that they're not going to behave like tube amps for the most part, so don't expect that. You can get more clarity and better note separation with an SS amp...

    Acoustic, Electric amp sound man...

I was in a similar situation a couple of years ago and I got a Roland Cube amp which allowed much nicer tones at low volume. Also, to get some stage volume, and since the cubes are closed-back, I turned the amp around and leaned it back against the base from a mic stand and used it as a...
