If we're talking about players of "Icon" status ie; Berry, VanHalen, Hendrix, SRV......only two players in the 90's in my mind come close. Joe Satriani and Slash, and in my opinion they aren't in the same class as the players above. To be a true icon, a player has to change how the instrument...

Thats cool that your kid knows who Jimi is. Every generation has THAT guitarist that is "the one"........the guitarist that redefines the instrument, the guy all the young'uns wanna play like. The 50's had Chuck Berry The 60's had Jimi Hendrix The 70's had Eddie Van Halen The 80's had Stevie...

Yeah, a Tele is the only way to go. I've ownd EVERY type of guitar there is and for just sheer versatilty, you can't beat a Telecaster. I play everything from Jazz to Blues to Rock to Country and the Tele does it all. Twang on, Brothers and Sisters!
