But you can't deny that the two guitarists I mentioned have some amazing chops, along with some really speedy lines tossed in there.

I don't have any sites, but I would recommend trying strumming along to some different time signatures, 6/8, 5/8, 3/4, 5/4, etc. etc. and then see how well you can fit those patterns into 4/4. If you get what I'm saying.

Now, in this case, the standard is obviously shredding with a pick. However, looking at players like Jeff Beck and Monte Montgomery (I posted a thread about him elsewhere in this section), it actually seems as if fingerpicking may allow better speed and arpeggiation. (Is that a real word?)...

@hubberjub: I'm not sure about that - Ovations are pretty unique, and their ultra-slim body acoustics actually feel about the same as a standard guitar. @wingsdad: Yeah, that's pretty much what I was going to say, of course. :D

I think what Fender generally does nowadays when it acquires a new brand is gives a bit more funding to the brand, and, obviously, reaps the profits.

I guess I only told half the story there - My dad just got this guitar recently, at an auction for about 17.5k (a steal, obviously); selling it for even 27k would be quite the return.
