New Splawn Super Sport

What's up friends! Happy 2015. It's been awhile since checking in. Still gigging like crazy in an acoustic duo and 5-piece variety cover band. I found a nifty low-wattage Marshall type amp that absolutely rocks! I tried a 15w Marshall DSL, which has a great clean channel, but I did not like...

    Current & Past "Hot Gear"

The Vox modeling stuff...AD50VT. Man, these were a hot product. I probably couldn't give it away. But I'll tell ya...it's a great amp to have around the house. I've used it in some band rehearsals...and I often bring it to gigs as a backup, if needed.

    Current & Past "Hot Gear"

WHAT?!? You mean you never had a Hermida Zendrive on your board?? I remember that being the "hot" pedal of the day. I got sucked into the hype.

    Current & Past "Hot Gear"

YES!!! These are some excellent instruments. You get a lot of guitar for the $$$.

    My yummy new Strat

Absolutely! Having a ball with it. The only things I don't use it for are a couple of songs in drop-D tuning. It messes up the tension with a floating trem. I always bring a backup guitar anyway, so no sweat.

    My yummy new Strat

Thanks bro, the guitar feels super comfy, and plays like a dream.

    My yummy new Strat

No "buzz", "hum" or other interference in positions 1 through 5. I LOVE that idea. They are dual coil ceramics. They coils are stacked. So, the tone can approach...say....perhaps a lower output humbucker (to my ears), without jeopardizing the classic Strat tones you know and love.

    My yummy new Strat

    Thank you, sir.

    My yummy new Strat

I would describe the neck as "comfortable". It's neither fat nor chunky, but it's a little bigger than the "modern C". It just feels good, if that makes any sense. I have three rehearsals (with different bands) this week, plus a gig on Friday, and so far I am very happy with the guitar. I've...

    My yummy new Strat

NOW we're cookin'. Yummy Jeff Beck Artist Series Strat in the house. Locking tuners, roller nut, "Hot Noiseless" pickups. "Soft C" profile neck, 9.5" radius. Plays like a dream. A few pics for ya.... [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG]

    Some Strat help

I've seen the neck described as a "soft C shape"...not like the baseball bats that came on the earliest JB models. Did you find the neck to be a little more substantial than Fender's modern C, Robert?

    Some Strat help

What's up Fretters!? I'm looking at a couple different new production Strats, similarly priced. 1) Jeff Beck sig model 2) Hot Rod 62 I want pickups that sound good with overdrive/distortion...and I need a neck that feels chunkier that the thin modern C Fender, which is much too small for me...

Yes, the Blues Deluxe grinds out hard rock tones!

Tried a cool little experiment with the BDRI. Love the amp, but it's freakin loud, and that's when it sounds best. I swapped the 6L6s for a pair of JJ 6V6s, rebiased and fired it up. Left the stock speaker alone, since it sorta grew on me. The result is dynamic crunchy goodness on the...

    Rivera Audio

I have heard some people say they like the clean channel on the Riveras, but find the overdrive channel "buzzy" or "fizzy". Sure, I can get it to sound like that, but then it's not dialed in properly. Riveras need the master volume rolled up. THEN, add gain to taste. This clip has guitar...

So I got my butt plumbed today . . .

Here's what I remember about the last one I had... I scheduled the procedure for a Monday. I failed to realize that I would be downing the prep on Sunday, which happened to be FATHERS DAY!! What a dope. 'Bout time for another one too.

New Rivera in the house (PICS)!

It does some convincing hot-rodded Marshall-style overdrive. This is not "bedroom" volume. It was approaching balls-out, kill people volume. Still, it was only on half power (25 watts), with the master volume around 3. This is gonna be fun at the next gig :D Indulge me in some useless noodling...

New Rivera in the house (PICS)!

Rivera Fandango in the house. Hand-built in California. Deep, oversized cab. Heavy iron. Both channels have an adjustable boost. Can use a single patch cable in the loop, and lower the send/return volume controls for a built-in attenuator. Great little trick for home playing, and a beast for...

    Larry McRay

Many years ago, when my son and I were wandering between stages at the Detroit International Jazz Fest, we heard this ripping guitar solo, and stopped dead in our tracks to catch the rest of the set. Turned out it was Larry McCray. Never heard of him before that. Man, he was great!

    Reverb Pedal Rec anyone?

If you haven't settled on one yet... check out the "Wet" Reverb and the Hermida Reverb. I have the Hermida, and I love it because it's inexpensive, has one knob & sounds great!

    Reverend Guitars

Do yourself a favor, Steve, and get that guitar! I can pitch the virtues of the Reeves all day long, and the basic Double Agent specs are identical (except for the pickups and push/pull tone knob). Plus, they're just damn cool :socool
