“Will They Survive the 70s?” Feb 1970 Circus magazine cover

Interesting to see these faces and this question from a 1970 perspective, yet a little haunting, too.

Wow - interesting, thanks, Tig. 7 out of 20 gone (unless I've missed someone), but some made it past the 70's.

And only 50 cents!

And how do we categorize Grace Slick, who physically survived the 70s, but her career is long gone?

To be fair, she said a LONG time ago that she didn't want to be trying to look young and cool on a rock stage in her late 40's. She retired on her own terms, not because she couldn't have kept going. If you see her now, she doesn't dye her hair or try to hide her age, and is quite happy painting and doing whatever else she does.

True, but to also be fair, we need to hold her accountable for the "Starship" era. That was the perfect example of her trying to look young and cool in rock after she should have let it go. Whatever they built that city on, it wasn't rock and roll anymore.

So four of them didn't make it past the '70s. John Lennon barely made it out of the '70s, but that wasn't his own doing.
