A potential solution for my D'Aquisto

Voodoo, Tung, Mudcat, and all you other folks who are smarter than me (uh, that would be everyone). I've been thinking of a solution to the volume knobs on my Centura interfering with the strumming. What about a sliding pot positioned underneath the pick guard? Something like this:

The problem would be finding one that would work. The Benedetto is a passive pup and the wiring diagram indicates both pots should be 250K with the shells of both pots connected to ground. That's all I know. Input, suggestions?

Shiner, have your given any consideration to getting a larger pickguard?(as in: making one, cuz I know you have ) Not much larger, just one shaped so that would extend far enough 'behind' the bridge to get the pots out of your way.

I've also seen jazz boxes with the pot(s) mounted at the opposite end - up closer to the pickup/neck. But that would only get in the way up there...

Yeah, I've been playing around with that idea as well Wingsdad. Someone suggested extending it down far enough that the back of the pots could dip into the f-holes so the pick guard could be lowered. At this point I'm still thinkin' through all the options.

Do another pick guard, mount these on the underside on the bottom edge... they would totally be out of the way.

Hmmm, I like that idea even better than the sliding pots Chad, if I could find the right ones that would work with the pup.

Another thought I had, why do the pots have to be on the guitar? What if the pup is hooked up straight to the output jack, and then from the output jack they go to the pots, then the amp? That way in theory you could hook up straight to the amp(h) or run through the pots first?

I'm open to all suggestions here folks. We're looking for innovation.

By the way this is the very best idea, in my opinion followed by moving the p.g. over the sound hole cutout as Dread suggested.Maybe if going the Dread route some low profile speed knobs(I got a guy who does all kinds of wood ones.) would help even more!:rockon:

I gotta agree with y'all, I really like the thumbwheel pots. Now the problem is finding some that will work. I'll try to scan in the wiring diagram this weekend and see what y'all think.

Hey y'all, I have another stupid question. I found some thumbwheel pots made specifically for guitars, and even more specifically for jazz guitars and the kind of project I'm working on here. They're almost to the bottom of the page at this link:

Now my question is, these pots are 500k, and the wiring diagram calls for 250k pots. What kind of difference is it going to make if I use these?

Ok, did the research. Discovered the answer. 500k pots are completely compatible, and will make her sound brighter, which won't be a problem for this girl. Sorry for the stupid question.

Shiner.....why couldnt you take mr thumbwheel there....and get a nice piece of wood and put it on your lathe....and cut a wheel to put on there...so the thumbwheel part was not plastic...but some exotic wood?
