All these are good: Lone Rhino, Twang Bar King (one of my favorites), Desire Caught By the Tail (his "commercial suicide" album), Mr. Music Head (good but uneven) Young Lions (another favorite), Desire of the Rhino King (a compilation of cuts of the first three albums).

I also have Sheik Yerbouti, by Zappa, which Belew played on. In fact it was Zappa that discovered Belew playing in a cover band in Nashville.

The Bears album Rise and Shine is pop goodness at its best. :AOK:

I see Belew as very divided. On the one hand he came from playing in a Beatles cover band, on the other he decided early on that he didn't want to sound "normal" on the guitar. He wants to be a pop star, but his playing is so weird and out of left field that it throws many for a loop. Ditto with his animal noises and FX manipulations.
