Have you seen the new Xavieres? If the quality is anything like my XV600, they're a lot of guitar for the money.

Just a thought

Given your circumstances I would probably lighten up on the AMP or,
buy a used amp and spend some more $$$ on a guitar.
You couldn't go wrong with a Agile AL3000 from Rondomusic.net. It's a beautiful Les Paul Clone w/ ebony fretboard, real Abalone inlay and Alinco 5 Humbuckers at $379.
You can get a really decent amp (i.e. Line6 75w Spider lll) for just under $300
or somthing similar that would gig decently.
