last lesson, i surprised my teacher by introducing a new cd/song that i wanted to learn so i could sing it to my gram.

it was in drop c# tuning.

i started practicing the chords [and working on my barre ability, which is still limited but growing with practice]

and shiner cocked his head... listened...

'how do you play that?'

'well, first you have to re-tune the guitar'

before long, we had three guitars in that tuning... :rotflmao:

he was just like a kid tonight... 'look... check this out... '[he's jamming along to this other song but in this new tuning]

the magic never stops.

he wants us to duet the song that i'm learning.

i have a couple more chords to get this weekend from my teach first.

many steps in the journey, but the steps Make the Journey.

ok, [expletive]

i've officially done it.

shiner and i used to do this all the time on the W, but i've officially posted as shiner now on the Fret.

that last post was from me.

shiner is way not that in touch with his feminine side. :rotflmao:

alt tunings are alot of fun - try DADGAD. there are resources on the net for all the new chord shapes you'll have to learn :D

Good excuse for yet another guitar around the house.;)

our first official free jam

this was totally cool.

shiner and i, each sitting with one leg on the bed, duel gitfiddles, with a root chord, free jamming.

i would look at his fretboard and follow him as he experimented, then he would follow me.

we made music.

our very own music. jamming together. was really cool. :)

Cool CB! I have experimented a bit recently with my first "alternate" tuning, tuned to Eb, and a half step flat across the board. It was for messing around with a Weezer song. It was fun!

Easy to spot... you don't use CAPS!

CB.....Isn't that stuff against the TOS? You are sposed to be playing guitar LMAO.....

Open tunings are way fun. Lots of ways to make new interesting noises.

Drop C# is a new one for me. Drop D, D modal (a'ka Double drop D) I use. What are the strings tuned to in Drop C#???

That's just drop D (DADGBE) down a semitone, or am I missing something?
