Another new guy

Hi! I'm Steve. I live in the Manchester, NH area, and I've been playing for about 35 years.
I played in bands around here for about 25 of that, but retired from gigging in around 2002. I started playing back the the early days of punk, but my first love was always The Beatles. So my ideal sound is melodic, but with an edge. Kind of Beatles, Ramones, XTC, Guided By Voices, Byrds, Beach Boys & The Who.
One of the upsides of being older is that what are now unaffordable, "Vintage" guitars were just "Used Guitars" when I was younger, and I still have most of them. I'm at around 16 guitars at the moment. The stars of the lineup are an emerald green '68 Guild Starfire II, a '71 Les Paul Deluxe Goldtop, a '71 Telecaster and a '66 Hagstrom electric 12.

Hi and welcome Steve. It's good to have another experienced player on the forum. What amps do you like to use?

Right now, I have a little Roland Cube 20x and a Peavey Studio Pro 112, but I don't really use either of them. I pretty much do everything thru a Line 6 UX-1 into the computer, or I sit on the couch and play an electric unplugged. Haven't played with other humans except for trading tracks back and forth for recordings in quite a while. The amps pretty much gather dust.

Over the years though, I've had a Fender Tremolux head and cab, Twin Reverb, a 50w Marshall combo, Carvin 100 watt head with a Traynor cab, and a little Peavey practice amp.

I am a fan of Top Gear, but I've had this nickname since before the show existed. A buddy of mine started calling me that based on Stig O'Hara of The Rutles.

I don't know much Quo, but I love The Move, as well as a lot of other stuff the average Yank isn't into. I used to run a record store back in the 80's, and I've always loved old and new psychedelic stuff. (Quo did a pretty serviceable version of "I Can Hear The Grass Grow" as well.)

By the way, You know that's a John Fogerty song, right?

I didn't own this very long - the neck flexed like hell. But here's the Mosrite 12 I had in 1987. Traded the Hagstrom toward it, then brought it back, traded for something else, and bought back the Hag for what they gave me for it.

Thanks! I used to have a 4th one - a T-50. Kind of like the Starfire, but the color of the acoustic, only a single coil DeArmond neck pickup, and no cutaway. Wish I still had that!

This'll kill ya: back in the 80's, before anyone gave a damn about electric Guilds, $150 for the Starfire, and $85 for the S-100. :rockya

Yep and I bet he is glad that Quo covered it as it is one of the best known Rock songs (well in Europe). Imagine your song being the opening song to the biggest Rock concert of all time.
