Anti-theft tracking devices

Bout 3 months ago I had this beauty stolen from my house, along with another Squier Strat that Id modded...

I filed a Police report(thats about all their good for in cases like this)...but since the theft I keep thinking of tracking devices, like a homing device or even GPS...something small and inconspicuous, maybe tucked into control cavity, trem cavity...Ive got a couple other ideas, but I think something like this would be great to recover gear if ever stolen.

Problem is I cant seem to find anything cost effective or small enough...anybody got an ideas or suggestions???

Maybe a veterinarian can help out. They have micro chips that they put under animals skin and I'll bet you could hot melt glue one of those to some place inconspicuous in the guitar.

Strangely enough Id already considered that...local SPCA had a deal for $10 a pet, but I soon found out this was useless for this purpose. Basicly its just a scanable bar code, if your pet is found they are able to scan your pet and call you to tell you that its been recovered...but it doesnt track the pet or item.

There doesnt seem to be any pics online of these units to know how big or small they actually are...I guess if you dont know what it looks like then you wont know what to look for if your stealing a lowjacked item.

I'm under the impression that anything that can be tracked must be able to transmit signal of some kind, and therefore it needs to powered. Even battery powered device will be a problem for guitars.

Carvin already puts Snagg chips in the guitars they build, unfortunately this is not what ShortBuSX is looking for. The Snagg chips works exactly like the chips in dogs and cats. If you find a stray dog and cat, a scan will read data on the chip and help return the pet to the owner. A Snagg chip in a guitar can do the same if it turns up in the hands of the police. What ShortBuSX is looking for is something that the police can use to actually hone in on a location where the guitar is; that's how Lojack works. But like I posted earlier something like that will have to be powered, even if such a device is available.

I have several carvins with snagg.Not sure of its benefits as ive not had to use it but I like the idea of my axe having one!!!:bravo:

Then you will need a powered transmitting device. Probably isn't feasible for guitars yet. Check the on-line spy stores anyway. They might have a short range transmitter the size of a Vanilla wafer.

RFID's are great and easy to hide, but they don't transmit position information. Any RFID equipped device needs to be scanned at close range. LoJack doesn't transmit GPS coordinates. They're tracked using the tried and true triangulation method. Anything that transmits a RF signal will require a good deal of power - even for milliwatt level transmissions.

Perhaps there's a market for this awaiting someone who can develop and mass produce a micro-miniature, low cost GPS transmitter that can transmit continuously for several days.................

Im thinkin something like they use for wildlife. But then I vaguely remember hearing or reading about a chip they were talking about implanting in new-borns at the parents' request. Id also heard rumor(from my roommate who travels) that all of the new passports have a chip implant.

They're RFID's.
