Maybe RofG has any knowledge - what gear does Bill Frisell use?
I know he uses Teles and that funky looking headless thingy, but I'm mostly interested in his pedals and effects and how he uses them. He's got such a great sound.
Gee Robert, what made you think I know anything about Frisell?:rotflmao:
As much as I love and listen to the man [and it is A LOT], I have never had the opportunity to see him play and actually check his gear out firsthand, but I have read a lot.
Here's what I do know from reading and listening...
From what I've read in interviews and liner notes, he no longer seems to be using the Klein's he used a lot in his earlier days. As far as solid bodies, I know he has at least one Strat, one Tele, and some version of a Jazzmaster. He also has several semi-hollow arch-top guitars, though I don't know the specific makes of each.
He's got a Fender Princeton amp and a Mesa Boogie, that I know for sure.
As far as his effects go, he uses quite a bit of distortion and delay. Chorus is also a big part of the Frisell sound. He also does quite a bit with looping/sampling pedals. Your guess is as good as mine as to which specific pedals he is using. On a lot of his more recent stuff I hear some form of ring modulator which he uses to get a really cool sound with harmonics.
I have a video that you can get from his website called "The Guitar Artistry of Bill Frisell." In it he talks a bit about the types of pedals he uses and what he uses them for. It's a bit dated, but it is still very cool.
Here are some articles/interviews on Frisell's gear:
