Bought My First Stomp Boxes

Hey, WackyT, I'm selling a Behringer DM100 Distortion Modeler...emaulates the Boss DS-1, MXR Distortion+, and the ProCo Rat. Has original packaging and manual. I can sell it to you for $25 shipped...

That's cool WackyT! I have some Behringer effects too. They sometimes get slagged for being cheap, knockoffs etc. but they're an affordable place to start and you know what, they don't sound too bad. I've been gigging with mine, and they've held up so far - at least the places I'm gigging right now. You might want to get something a little more sturdy if you start playing biker bars :D

You know the rules around here though - if you get new gear, you have to post clips ;)

Rock on Brother Fretter!

Trev

Thanks, Trev. I'm still a beginner, but I'll post a clip of what I can do when I get the pedals, if you guys want.

I just received the Behringer pedal tuner (TU100 or something like that?) and it is really nice! Great display and easy to tune with because of that display, works great, and the price was right! I also have a clean boost coming. (thanks Spud for the assist!) I have mostly Boss pedals but didn't want to pop for the Boss tuner. This one seems like it will be awesome. The only thing that worries me a little is that the plastic molded part of the stomp button that holds the stomp button on might break someday. But by that time, if it comes, I am sure I will have received my $19 or so worth I paid for it. Good score WackyT! I think the Behringer pedals are a great place to start.

My Behringer TO800 (Vintage Tube Overdrive) is awesome. There was a review online comparing its tone very favorably to the revered TS-808.

Well, awright! Welcome to Pedaldom! Two things:

  1. Let's get that signature updated! ;)
  2. You gotta get yourself one of THESE. Cheap & more fun than a clown on fire!!

I've got one of those too. It does indeed have a really excellent "tubescreamer-ish" sound, especially for the money (totally blows away the Arion Tubulator, which is in the same price range). I've also got a Behringer A/B switch pedal that works great, never had any problems with it, definitely a good bargain.

While I wouldn't claim that the Danelectro Chicken Salad pedal "nails" the Univibe sound, it gets awfully close (a heckuva lot closer than my playing gets to Robin Trower's!! :D ). And for $25, how can you go wrong?

Hey DVM, I was listening to SRV's Texas Flood(the song) last night on the way home...and I kinda hear some of the same tone as Robin Trower...I was looking for a studio recording of Texas Flood that I could post, hoping maybe you could confirm or deny what I heard.

There are multiple recorded versions of that tune, including several live ones. Do you know which one you were listening to?

SRV used a Leslie rotating speaker cab quite often, which gives a rather similar modulation sound.

No I dont know exactly which version...I was listening to it on SiriusBlues...but the rotary pretty much confirms what I was thinking.

But I think youve sold me on the Chicken Salad, I really like that tone coupled with a Strat...thanks again!

Music123 has the best price I've seen at $25, though I've heard about guys getting them brand new off eBay for even cheaper. Most of the online sellers have them at $30....

Thanks for the recommend on the Danelectro, DVM. I might give that a go on the next purchasing go around. I'm still waiting on my Behringer pedals. I should be getting my "new" Fender Champion 30 amp tomorrow. Hoping the pedals come also.

WT, you may want to consider picking up one of THESE if you're going to be running multiple pedals. You should be able to do a bit better than this price if you shop around or search on eBay, but even at $30, they pay for themselves in 9V battery purchase avoidance pretty quickly! Not very convenient for gigging musicians, but for us home players, they're a godsend....

+1 on the 1 Spot. Spudman turned me on to them. I did find one for less searching the bay. I just have to run a separate power supply to my looper (and apparently my multi effect Korg) to avoid hum and funky little noises. But for my stompboxes, the one spot is awesome. WT, I am only less than a year ahead of you with these things, and they start to collect after a while. :p

Thanks DVM! I was actually thinking about this and found an old 9VDC 1200ma fully rectified transformer I'm gonna use for this. Their multiplug cable:

will save me from having to make extension cables to connect them all up to the transformer.

EDIT: Found a new MC5 on eBay for $7.95 and $3.95 shipping. KILLER!

EDIT #2: The transformer is fully rectified not regulated.

+1 on the cable, but an "old" transformer could be a problem if it isn't filtered. You may just notice hum on most stomp boxes, but on anything that has modulation (chorus, delays or loopers) it can drive you crazy if the regulated power isn't filtered.

I keep an old one around for a backup and stick with Boss, Ibanez and the like because they are made to be quiet(er).

Spud, it's got a full wave bridge rectifier and a filter capacitor. Tore it apart this morning to check. It's an old Atari Jaguar game system transformer.

See what you think; the last 20 seconds of this short clip:

My original post on it is HERE, and describes the setup I used.

You know, over the weekend I was lookin at my AD30vt and just tinkered a little bit with the effects...but that Trem/verb and Rotary/verb were lookin kinda tasty...I gave em a whirl...but then again Im not so hot with the edit feature on the effects(on the VOX) just yet...and it made me curious DVM, did you have any luck with these? Anything close? I felt like I was kinda in the ballpark...but couldnt find the sweet spot. Any direction or suggestions? Part of me kinda figures it couldnt have worked out so hot or you wouldnt have got the Salad pedal...but then again*shrug*
