A couple of members of my homebrew club came over and I whipped up a batch of my Holzfaeller (Lumberjack) Altbier. One of the guys who visited wrote about it on his blog, along with a couple of "action shots." Despite not having brewed in a while, everything went extremely well. The beer (well, it WILL be beer, anyway) is fermenting happily away in another part of my basement.

Mmmmmm, beeeeer! Homebrew beeeeer, that is.

I used to make some homebrew ale in my bachelor days. It was just hell to storage it. I remember once we started making a triple batch of it in May or so, and then I had real problems to fit it anywhere, nearly two hundred bottles after all. And then we drank it all in circa two weeks when my holiday started :-) it was pretty good, though...I used brown sugar instead of normal for extra taste.

Hm, maybe I should try it again some day!

I did too for about 10 years and really miss the smell of the hops and the wort. I was never very pleased with my beer and was hard on myself to make the perfect beer but that never came.

A friend got a Mr. Beer kit and I laughed my arse off. Never made beer before but he knew good beer. He made his own recipe the first time and damn if it wasn't good. By far the best homebrew I've ever tasted. I told him that will never happen again no matter what he does.

I dabbled with all grain brews and it took a full day of work and though good, I gave up and now pay for micro brew instead.
Enjoyed the blog!

Yeah, I just don't like to lose too much out the tube. I have not brewed in a couple/few years. I miss it and need to get a brew going soon.

Great, Marnold! I'm a homebrewer too, though I've never done an alt. Re: heavy blowoffs, I use Fermcap drops, which minimize foaming during the boil and minimize
blowoff during fermentation -- they're great. I got back into brewing a couple of years ago, after a many year hiatus. I don't drink copious amounts, generally, but I
love good beer and love brewing.
Let us know how the alt turns out!

I hope it turns out like it did the first time I brewed it. It was _perfect_. I wanted to park my head under my tap and just stay there. I couldn't believe that it had been five years since I brewed that. Of course, I've only brewed once or twice a year in that time.
