casino nut

hi,

new member,

purchased a lennon casino which was sounding poorly.
i owned once a elitist which was really an amazing guitar.
i had someone put in a tonepros bridge, and a new nut.

The guitar sounds a lot better however a little stiff, and action a bit difficult.
Relief looks ok. I'm wondering about the nut. If it is cut too hight this might account for the problem.

Also, i need to take it somewhere else to have the frets leveled a little. (he did not have tools for steel frets). This guitar apparently was refretted with higher frets several years ago. There is some wear on the frets.

I'm wondering if anyone can recommend anyone to do a fret level, and check the nut, and possibly check the saddle grooves as wel.

How far are the strings off the first fret?

You got any buzzing or fretting out when you bend notes?

Nut height is easy to check. With strings depressed between frets 2 and 3, the clearance at the first fret should be approximately .015 inch (or the thickness of a standard business card).

no buzzing. just a lot stiffer and hard to chord. esp. bflat at first,etc.

now another problem presents itself. i tried recording on a tascam 788 8 track, which i had done w/the elitist casino i had and the b string feeds back on the 2,3, 4th ft. i was chording eflat, b flat chords doing it stacatto, when releasing feedback became painfully obvious. tried every sort of tonal/volume combination, and had it on a clean setting on the 8 track. i may have to bring it to get the pickups waxed. this is a used guitar i did on a trade.

wow. a question: has anyone modded their casino with lollar custom p90's?

i actually had bought them a few years ago but sold them along with the epi. and never did have them installed.

I may be misunderstanding, but perhaps you simply need to lower your pickups a tad.

no, definitely something wrong. maybe needs wax. as they are as low as you can put them.
