I'm trying to play with a violinist lately, but I can't seem to get my act together with him. He's classically trained and can't seem to budge from the style he's used to playing. I've just been learning Rock and Blues so I'm several worlds away from him.

What I'd love is if I can lay down a rythym and he can solo something over top, I think that'd sound pretty cool but he can't seem to improvise. I was thinking a good compromise is if I can pick up some classical songs that back him up or harmonize in a way with him. Anyone have any material suggestions?

btw I hope this is in the right section.

Here is a classical piece that is versatile:

Funny vid, but you maybe could even just use the piece to play with your friend. Why not?

Excellent, I can certainly do that. Thanks a lot man. I guess it's knowing what to look for that makes the difference in finding it.
