coil tap

hell all,
is it more or less preffered to use the "north "coil of a bridge humbucker when you tap it? or is there more to consider?

It doesn't matter a ton. When I did mine, I cut/shunted the coil closest to the bridge. I did that in the hopes that it might be slightly less bright, although the main reason is because it was easier to wire. I just had to connect the two wires that are normally soldered together to the middle lug of a push-pull pot and solder a wire from the top lug (aka the one closest to the knob itself) to the ground. Dirt simple.

Having said that, I found series/parallel switching to be a much better choice than coil shunting. Parallel makes it almost sound like a single coil and it's hum-canceling to boot.

Yeah, was down this road before with my Fender Showmaster. Someday I might do series/parallel for both pups on my Jackson, but I'm in no hurry.
