Here's an excerpt from an internet collaboration where we covered Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb. My part was to provide the first solo. To try, and I repeat TRY, to approximate Gilmour's tone I used my Schecter PT (middle pickup split) and PodXT with a patch I found on customtone.com called, appropriately enough, Gilmour Lead.

spot on, Stingx. nicely played. smooth bends and nice tone.
are ya working on the 2nd part?

Thanks, guys.

f1point7, to answer your question no. This cover was done a long while back on another forum. The outtro was actually performed by Chris Watson, of Black Rose fame. I was never happy with the backing track so I wouldn't mind redoing this cover again in the future. Perhaps you or some others from this forum might like a go at it?

If anyone cares to listen to the entire cover you can click here.

I should give credit to the other performers on this. On vocals is Bob Morrison and, as I already mentioned, playing lead on the outtro is Chris Watson. I found a midi backing and converted it then mixed and mastered everyone's parts in Cubase.

this is one song I really wish to learn good someday.. and attain the right live sound to... fortunate for me it's just a matter of time as there are so many good players on the net leaving info to David's sound now.. ofcourse obtaining the equipment and than getting to that skill level will take time and practice practice... thanks for the link to the whole song to!

I actually got to meet Chris over the summer while I was on a business trip to the London office. He went out of his way to travel 3 hours by train to meet up with a friend and I and showed us a great time. Class guy. I can only imagine how well he must treat long time friends.

Since we're on the subject of the second Comfortably Numb solo, here's a link to a post I made a couple of months ago. It contains a link to a recording of that piece that I stumbled across at the Seymour Duncan forums. The playing is excellent, and the tone is just flat amazing, IMO:

Nice job, Stingx! It's fun to play over that song, isn't it?

Gotta love the Floyd of Pink.

Thanks, Robert. I have to tell you your clips on your website are very motivating. I think you and I share a similar quest for tone.
