Compare and Contrast; or Original and Cover

Another favourite of mine: Johnny Cash covering Tom Petty's Southern Accent

Tom Petty's original:

Racer X's Godzilla (This was the first real shred band that I heard and Paul Gilbert, to this day, remains one of my favourite musicians of all time.)

Blue Oyster Cult's original:

I had never heard that Malmsteen cover before. That's crazy.

Almost forgot about this, going back to All Along the Watchtower, the late Shawn Lane "too many notes" version

I love shred. I admire Shawn Lane. But for my money, that's not All Along the Watchtower any more. It's just a vehicle for a bunch of notes. I've heard him do far more interesting things with Jimi covers.

And this cover by Apocalyptica, four very talented fins featuring Nina Hagen. Apocalyptica's first album is well worth a look.

Compare and contrast these versions of "Ironman." I've never been a fan of Black Sabbath, but the Cardigan's version I love.

Well, the Cardigan's version of Iron Man is certainly a unique twist, I'll give it that. I don't think it'll make me forget the Sabbath version.

How about the classic "Respect"?
The Otis Redding original

Aretha's more well-known cover

And here's another one. I much prefer the original version before Whintey's

Hampus's example of Whitney reminds me of her covering George Benson's "Greatest Love of All". Didn't see fit to post vids, but another example.
