Digital voice recorder for spoken notes to self?

I seem to need a small recorder to make spoken notes to myself, as my short-term memory isn't the best. Not a music application (except maybe it I was a lyricist?)!

There a zillion of them out there, some with 70-hour capacity or such.. which I do not need.
Any advice on selecting one?

BTW, screw you Motorola engineers for crippling a phone so it can only record notes going out instead of staying on-board for user's perusal...!

Hmm. My HTC Desire has a voice recorder app for that very purpose. If your phone is Android-powered, try Tape Machine. I use it for recording bass/guitar too.

Good stuff, but not looking for a phone app. I want a stand-alone machine.

The standard in law offices has always been Olympus recorders. Used to be microcassette, now they are digital I believe.

Thanks SVL. My readings indicate that student journalists seem to also prefer that make, which is a pretty good endorsement.
Confusing, as there is a lot to choose from!

You're welcome. That said, it seems overkill for short personal notes. I would use my iPhone or a memo device that comes in many phones out there. But you said you wanted standalone.
