Ditto looper

I Recently got a Ditto looper. What's the secret to getting a continuous loop. I always wind up with a big empty gap at the end of loop. Instead of one steady piece of music. HELP!!!

I haven't used the Ditto, but it does take some practice and experimentation with loopers. Let's look at a 1 bar loop. I start playing, get in the groove and when I have a steady groove going, only then do I hit the pedal - where the 1 should be. Then, I hit the pedal a 2nd time just before the end of beat 4.
