I am considering buying a new EMG active PUP kit for my Squier... specifically the David Gilmour kit. I have a quote of $199 which based on my research is a great price (Guitar Center).

Questions:
1) Does anyone have this PUP and what do you like or not like about the tone, controls, sound shaping, output, etc?
2) Does anyone have tips for how to wire active pickups so that it does not require surgery on the guitar each time the battery runs down? I have seen posts in other forums that talk about removing 2 or 3 of the tremolo springs and using that back cavity for battery storage.
