So a few years back, I posted that I was drawing up a solid model of my friend's old lefty Japanese Strat, and that I intended to use it to make my own Strat templates and of coarse, the guitar. I have finally got around to the project again, and have made progress. The templates just need some sanding, and I have just received the last of the special tooling necessary for 1:1 template routing.

Note the radius transition at the heel (where the body outline approaches the neck plate). Seems simple enough right? Very difficult to model. The only things I am missing in the solid model is the cutaways. For now, I can just make the thing and file those by hand, but I will have to fix that.

This looks just plain cool.

Nice rig, BTW... and where'd you get a "Badder Bad Monkey"?

Thanks, and thanks. The Badder Bad Monkey was an ebay find, but they are around and can be bought fairly cheap. I paid like $30.00 for mine.

I tried to post these pics of the templates the first time, but it didn't work. Images were too big.

My cat was being nosey and got into one, so I included it for my amusement if nothing else.

Now with hip and arm contour!

Made some progress on the solid model. Here's some more pics. The hip contour was a real challenge.

If I wanted to now, I could just put my body blank into a CNC machine, and out comes what you see. I am still going to make my first one by hand though. Otherwise I wouldn't really feel like I made her.
