As Blaze says, this is a Rabid Rodent that I made for him (before he figured out that he's just not a ProCo Rat fan) last Feb. It's the same pedal that Robert plays in his demo, just with a different paint job, and with the Ruetz mod toggle mounted at the top of the pedal, rather than out the side above the output jack, where I usually mount it. SAME EXACT CIRCUIT. A new DVM Rabid Rodent would run you $145 these days (and be worth every freakin' dime, and more!! :D). So if you've been wanting one and just didn't want to pay the new pedal price, make ol' Blazes a good offer on this one!

You might think I'm nuts helping Blaze sell a used DVM pedal at the potential loss of a sale of a new one, but that's the kind of customer service & support you get from Duh Voodoo Man!!!

If I did not already have one . . . such a nice versatile pedal. Phat distortion as Robert shows above, plus really nice overdrives.

When I first got my Rat I didn't like it. Then I spent more time with it and now I will NEVER get rid of it. Maybe you might want to spend more time with yours before you dump it? I really would be sad if I would have parted with mine when I first thought that I would never bond with it. The Rat is an awesome pedal and Voodoo's is even better. Get extreme with the settings and find those different voices.

Don't worry Spud ,i've enjoyed the Rabid very much ,this is such a versatile and mean sounding pedal ,but Rat is not my thing..
Also,i'm selling it to achive an other project involving the skillfull and talented mr. Duhvoodoo man..

So who s the first to make an offer to help Blaze on his new project..:socool

Blaze,
I notice you also have the Ts9 in your stable. Do you feel the Rodent gets a comparable overdrive tone with one of its many settings?

Using the "Ruetz mod" i would say pretty close to à Ts9 and others OD pedals + the EQ filter helps find all kind of tone colors.
In the clip above i ve use the "Ruetz mod" to get that smooth Lapsteel sound..

With the regular setting that is mainly distortion and the "Ruetz mod" toogle switch wich is more of and OD setting you have some versatile device and needless to say that Duhvoodoo man 's pedal are build link tanks..

For some additional insights, just a couple of comments about how this pedal is constructed:

A normal Rat circuit generates distortion by clipping a portion of the amplified signal directly to ground through a pair of 1N914 silicon diodes. This mode of clipping gives an aggressive and compressed distortion character. The Rabid Rodent uses this mode of clipping on positions 1 - 3 on the rotary switch. Position #1 is the stock Rat 1N914 pair, #2 is a pair of red LED's, and #3 is a pair of J201 JFETs, all of which give a somewhat different tonal character.

However, positions 4 - 6 do not clip the opamp output directly to ground, but rather are located in the opamp's feedback loop, the way the clipping stage in a Tube Screamer (and innumerable other overdrives) is configured. This moderates the tonal impact of the clipping, giving less distortion and compression, and a more overdriven sound. Position #4 is an asymmetric silicon diode array (3x1 1N914's), #5 is a pair of red LED's, and #6 is a pair of BS170 MOSFETs.

Now there are still many differences between the rest of the circuit in a Rat vs. a Tube Screamer, so just using TS-style clipping by itself isn't going to make a pedal sound like a TS-9 or -808. But the Rabid Rodent does offer the three settings that are distinctly less distorted and more overdriven in tone. And you can obviously twiddle the Distortion (gain) and Filter (tone) knobs to dial in the sound to your liking. Plus you also have the Ruetz mod switch, which drops the gain some, and flattens the EQ profile for a less aggressive tone at any of the rotary switch positions.

Bottom line: It's a VERY flexible pedal....

Awesome, DVM, I actually understood some of that. Definitely answer my question, that being, if a dude was looking to get a benchmark OD pedal (808 etc) to explore that direction, this is an awesome alternative to those.

decisions, decisions.

$125 shipped is an great deal on this pedal. Someone is going to get a screamin' deal! Not only do you get the phat distortions like Robert so ably demonstrates, but you get killer overdrives. Dial back the distortion on the red LED OD setting, which clips less, and you get a bunch of sweet heat and sustain with very little color. So nice!

I'll be honest.. I could probably scrape up the money for it, but if when it gets here and it doesn't suit what I need, then I'm out $125.

I learned a long time ago that before investing in something, it's best to test drive it.. cars, music gear, women...

Sumi,
You're another one with both the Rodent and the Ts9. Do you use them for different situations?

No,actually I got the Ts9 with my Blues Jr I bought I have been thinking on either selling it (which I will regret later) or mod it,cause I use the rodent when I'm not using my M-13.Sumi:D

As i was going to take new pictures of the Rabid i ve noticed at day light that the paint on top ,for some reason, is a little cracked..

The Rat clone works perfectly but for this cosmetic matter i m dropping the price to $ 95.00 + shipping..

This is more like the currentColor
