I received my latest guitar acquisition a few days ago and have been adjusting and playing around with it. I'm still getting used to playing it, as you can tell. Instead of telling you what I bought I'm posting the following mp3 of a short series of riffs:

Give me your guess as to what you believe this guitar to be, I'll give the answer in a day or so. One hint: this is a cheap guitar.

Although I love the Clash I much rather play their songs than buy a 'poser' guitar. In any case, the Joe Strummer tele is around $1000 which is not even close to being cheap.

The rest of the story:

I grow up during the Beatles era and have for a long time wanted a 12-string to play some of those jangling 60's songs. A Rickenbacker is way too expensive and the narrow neck is not exactly easy to play. About 10 years ago I almost bought a Danelectro DC12 for $200 at GC. I've played those many times at guitar stores and always thought they played and sounded nice. In spite of that I never bought one.

About a year ago I found out about this 24 3/4" scale 12-string that supposedly sounds quite good. I kept my eyes out and after missing out on eBay a couple of times finally got one last week.

The guitar is in perfect condition and the intonation is almost perfect. One thing I noticed though is that the action is quite high up the neck. I've had previous experience fixing a problem like that. I checked the neck and it is quite straight with a slight back bow, which is how is should be set up. I added a shim at the base of the neck and now the action is quite acceptable.

I still have to get used to playing on it as barre chords take more finger strength than my 6-strings. All kinds of songs are now coming to my head to learn; I've never tried to play "Friday I'm In Love" prior to this last Friday (I'm in love). I know I'm going to have fun with this guitar, and it cost me $210.

I didn't really think you bought the Strummer Tele as you had mentioned the purchase was cheap. I linked to it because you directed me to this thread on another thread where you and I were discussing the Clash so I thought I'd link to it because I knew you'd dig it.

As to your actual purchase, that is VERY sweet! I play a lot of Beatles songs, mostly on my ES-135, but I imagine they'd sound super cool on that. Wish you many years of fun playing with it!

Wow, that is nice looking! I was guessing that light blue f hole tele shape guitar that someone landed recently, but the Beatles sound was definately present in you clip. Congrats!

Wow, I would have never guessed. Cool looking and sweet sounding, what else can you expect from a guitar? Congrats!

That guitar is a beauty! Congrats.

If I were to take the plunge on an inexpensive electric 12, I'd be all over that!

I have the 6-string version in Pepto Pink, complete with the "Grrl Power" 12th-fret inlay!

Mine was $120 new shipped. A closeout of the original model that didn't have coil-split or the Duncan Designed pickups.
