Got my first ever iPod

Been trying to resist for years... to no avail... so I broke down and bought an iPod Classic in black. Nice little thing. With 120GB, I can finally keep all my music in one place, and bring it along anywhere too. Life is good. :beer:

Enjoy. Just don't run it loud for long periods or you'll end up with hearing problems. Trust me on this.

Hearing problems? What's that? The sad truth is I have some real hearing issues, mostly from playing too much with stupidly loud drummers and standing too close to their nasty cymbals.

Cool, Robert- my daughter got a nano 8GB for her birthday. It's pretty neat, I've never had one either. But dang, that thing can get loud.

Don't leave it out in the car with the freezing Canadian temps out cause that will reduce your battery charge very quickly. Also don't try to recharge it in the car charger adapter when it's been left out in the freezing Canadian temps otherwise you spend g.a.s. money on 15 amp fuses. Another tip and I know you're smart but try to stick to using iTunes for downloading your music because I don't want to wake up late at night to answer your questions as to why you can't get your free music downloads from (insert your free music download url here) onto your iPod.

Good advice, but I have no problem downloading mp3 music from Amazon.com and having it play on my mac and iPod, and I buy it there if the price is better (sometimes), or if it is the DRM'less version at Amazon and is only the version with DRM's at iTunes. I really like it when iTunes has the DRM'less versions, but that is not always. The only hiccup I have when loading stuff from my CD collection or purchased somewhere else than iTunes is that sometimes it will grab the wrong album art to display.

iPods work great! I had a classic 40gig for years before it finally died. Now I use my iPhone which is also great, but holds less than my old deck of cards sized classic one. It is very useful for listening to podcasts, books, and of course music, and i often have the music I am learning loaded in a playlist so I can play along with it, either through a headphone amph, or just directly. It is also useful to have a headphone adapter going out to stereo in put jacks (red/black) to plug into the back of any old stereo and have essentially all your music at your finger tips. Car travel too. I tend to use the tape adapters, but the radio ones work, and many car stereos have inputs built right in now.

It's a sweet unit. It plays video really good. I got some Scott Henderson live clips I'm watching... sound is way better than my old Creative Zen player.

It holds photos too of course. The screen is nice. This unit will be a keeper for a long time. The only thing I'm wondering about is the space on my laptop vs. my iPod. I tend to fill up my laptop with video from my camcorder, and I won't have 120 GB available on my laptop always. So that means automatic syncing between iPod and laptop may not be a good idea in the long run. I have an extra harddrive but I don't often plug it in. I guess I should move all my music on there and only sync when I have it plugged in.

Good for you Robert! They're great devices. I refer to mine as my life-support system and it is never far from my side. My music collection is far too vast to fit it all on a single iPod (until they create a terrabyte or larger one) but 80GB is more than enough to carry around with me at any given time. I still have to take something off to put something new on, but it's the price you pay for being obsessed with music.

You select what you sync automatically and can leave off anything you want, including home vid. You can set it to sync some vids and not others too. Not too hard really, just select "sync" selected movies or tv shows, music or whatever and then check just the boxes you want. Then you can automatically sync and not worry about maxing out on something. I believe power users often manually sync to have ultimate control as a different option.

Steve, the problem is I don't have enough space on my laptop to hold all that my iPod will be holding. So I'll need to use my external harddrive.

Never even SEEN a Zune! May be a good product, but I think they are way too late for the show.

I got a first gen nano @ 4gb. Perfect for my commuting in and out of the city. I never got into watching movies on tiny screens so I haven't ever had the urge to upgrade to any device that can do it. This will suffice until it dies. Enjoy the iPod, Robert.

Just came back from a run with it. Was worried it wouldn't fit in the breast pocket of my running coat, but it did. I just hope I won't kill it with sweat when I take it for a run. Better leave it home if it's raining.

It actually works to watch movies on this screen, if you're on a bus, plane or in a similar situation. Or for showing off the video from the last gig to a friend!

I've an 80GB 5th generation iPod which functions as a CD player for my home hi-fi. My real Marantz CD player is currently in a box in the roof space. I've also just bought one of the new model 8GB Nanos for travel and use in the car (flash memory = more robust) and have to say I've very impressed with the new features. Yes you can watch video on that little screen and the accelerometer in the new Nanos is just so cool.

I've had other mp3 players but none of them work as well as the iPod for my tastes.
