marnold said:Here ya go! The last bit is one of my favorite lyrics. To quote a friend of mine, "I had a girlfriend like that once."
It was you, it was me
And we would last forever
Any fool could see that we were meant to be
Without you, there is no meaning to my life
You're gone and it cuts me like a knife
How could you leave me?
. . .
Why did you turn away
Let your love fade away and die
You became so cold, you made me feel so old
When you left, you broke my heart
And just to see
How many pieces there would be
After you leave me
Anybody? I can drop a hint if that would get people guessing.Eric said:You say : "'Ere thrice the sun done salutation to the dawn"
And you claim these words as your own
But I've read well, and I've heard them said
A hundred times (maybe less, maybe more)
If you must write prose/poems
The words you use should be your own
Don't plagiarise or take "on loan"
'Cause there's always someone, somewhere
With a big nose, who knows
And who trips you up and laughs
When you fall

What can this strange device be?
When I touch it, it gives forth a sound
Its got wires that vibrate and give music
What can this thing be that I found?
See how it sings like a sad heart
And joyously screams out its pain
Sounds that build high like a mountain
Or notes that fall gently like rain
Wow I'm at the wrong end.HA HABigJD said:Rush off of 2112.

Yes, I cheated and checked some lyrics.
How about:
Early to bed
Early to rise
Makes a man or woman
Miss out on the night life

Well, like a bad penny you have turned up again,
You're in my sights, there's a mist on my lens.
I think you know how it was when I tripped and fell,
Well, you double-dealed me, baby, I cracked like a shell.
No Googling!
Robert said:Just got an idea... post some lines from a song, and we guess what song and artist it is.
You are not allowed to use search engines to look for the lines. Doing so will result in alien abduction with painful probing activities in certain body cavities, as well as mandatory front row seat participation (earplugs not allowed) at the next Britney Spears show.
Here we go!
Now, what song is that?
Don't cheat!
The person who gets it right continues with new song lines. Don't make it too obscure or I suspect the alien probing tools will come out.![]()
Blackest Eyes by Porcupine Tree. I love that song.Spudman said:A mother sings a lullaby to a child
Sometime in the future the boy goes wild
And all his nerves are feeling some kind of energy
A walk in the woods and I will try
Something under the trees that made you cry
It's so erotic when your make up runs
I got wiring loose inside my head
I got books that I never, ever read
I got secrets in my garden shed
I got a scar where all my urges bled
I got people underneath my bed
I got a place where all my dreams are dead
"Sister Havana" by Urge Overkill. Great tune, great album.Eric said:Didn't want to give away too much here, so I made an edit...

Come around to my way of thinkin'
Don't you want to, want to get along?
Everyday just like a vacation with you
When I'm watchin' you and Fidel Castro in the sand, kissin'!
Girl you got to roll
(redacted)
Overthrow
(redacted)
She's comin on like a bicycle army
Everybody's waitin' for the man to come down from the tower
Every day is just like a vacation with you layin' right here now
I'm watchin you and Fidel Castro in the sand, assassin!
My only guess would be something like Foreigner...marnold said:OK, here's a track by a great band before they started sucking:
I never needed love before
Till I met you, girl
A girl like you I have never seen
You came into my life like a whirlwind, girl
You let me know what lovin' really means
[Refrain]
You got me where you want me, girl
So no messin' around
You know I never played that hard to please
I've been here many times before
And walked this sacred ground
But this time you got me on my knees
You got me
[Refrain]
Since I seem to have ground this thread to a halt (again), I'll give some hints. This band was originally considered by some (although probably not me) to be a part of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. This song is off their second album. Their fourth album sold a bajillion copies but unfortunately pushed the band into the realm of pop where they've remained ever since. Nevertheless, their second and third albums remain classics in my mind.Eric said:My only guess would be something like Foreigner...
Well, I already googled for it, so I'm out of the running. If it helps, I wouldn't really call them heavy metal. I like them, however -- even the pop stuff.marnold said:Since I seem to have ground this thread to a halt (again), I'll give some hints. I didn't think this song was that obscure, but maybe I'm wrong. I heard it a lot in early high school.
marnold said:OK, I'll surrender. It's "Lady Strange" by Def Leppard off "High 'N' Dry." And yes, some people lump them in with the NWoBHM. How about this one from a very well known metal singer indeed. Probably his most maudlin song.
Yesterday has been and gone
Tomorrow will I find the sun
Or will it rain
Everybody's having fun
Except for me I'm the lonely one
I live in shame
[Chorus]
I've been the king
I've been the clown
No broken wings can hold me down
I'm free again
The jester with a broken crown
It won't be me this time around
To love in vain
