30 miles NW of St.Joseph, MO, in HOLT COUNTY, Missouri.
We've been out of (you name it) for a few days.
That's why I've been gone. Finally got laid off and wanted to get some time at home....... and what happens........ice storm....maples and sycamores gone, ruined, branches everywhere, looks like H..E..double hockeysticks.... 60,000 homes out of utilities.
Hey, we heated water on the turkey fryer, melted ice and boiled it, used our generator to charge/power an "all in one" battery pack/emergency unit w/NOAA radio, AC/DC power supply, area light, and powered flourescent lights, and luckily had an old heating oil stove to keep the basement warm enough to sleep in, (although I hated burning oil), but it got COLD. We recycled all we could, used solar anywhere we could, and still had to resort to one small 2-cycle generator w/ 1- 120v outlet. Kind of like camping out, but using heating oil, gasoline, propane, and batteries. Power's back on now, AFAIK all the neighbors are OK, been checking w/ them off and on.
Just a thought... water supply...... keep some on hand.
Ya need alot to drink,bathe, flush toilets, cook, brush teeth, etc.
Heat.... it don't take alot, body heat works....
Food...... beer=carbohydrates...... I like toast, too..
Solar powered lights...nice....emergency...great...they work indoors, too. Just set 'em in a window during the day.
Check on neighbors..
NO power= no fuel/food/heat/gas/electricity/water/........keep some on hand, if possible. It could be severe, luckily we were warned/prepared.
