Hi Folks,
Let's see, I'm 48. Been playing on and off since I was 16. I really haven't devoted the time to be as good as that many years might indicate I would be.
I served in the US Army at Ft Lewis as a Cobra Crew Chief from 80-83. Thus explaining the screen name and avatar.
I'm currently attending school full time pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering thanks to VA voc rehab.
Married, with one teenager.
Music for me has been my very personal escape from the insanity of day to day life.
I have rarely played with, or in front of others, even though I know I'd be a better player for it.
I grew up on what is now classic rock. (You know you're getting old when you hear the Stones on Muzak in an elevator :thwap )
My favorites list is VERY long. Just a few:
Floyd, Hendrix, Trower, Frank Marino, Santana, Rush, Uncle Ted, The Dead, CSNY, Karen Carpenter (Yea I know, but I just loved her voice), Ramones, America, BOC, Buffet, Eagles. From Metallica to the Monkeys. There's not a lot I don't like.

With such a broad spectrum of influences I find it hard to pigeon hole exactly what it is I do when I'm doing my own stuff. I try to play music I consider worth listening to, but fall miserably short of the mark in my opinion more often than not. Although those that have heard me play would say I play well. I guess I just have high expectations for myself.

Yamaha thin body that has been played so much the fretboard is worn to the substrate under the basic open chord patterns.

I'm also in my 40s, and have had an off and on relationship with the guitar. Finally started lessons recently, and it scares me to realize how little I actually know. We also seem to have similar tastes in music, and my tastes are also quite varied.

Welcome Rotor! You are in good company here. Rotor pilot? I had (still have, just lost touch) a buddy who was a rotor wing "Top Gun" and served long in the Navy. He is from New Hampshire I think, but has been in Tacoma/Olympia for years. I also grew up in Tacoma, and spent a lot of time at Ft. Lewis and McChord with the Boy Scouts, going to the PX with Dad (Navy/Navy Reserve). etc. Thank you for your service.

Just saw Uncle Ted a couple weeks ago at the Hampton Beach Casino and Ballroom. At 61 I was amazed! He played and ranted for 2 1/2 hours straight. Mostly played. It was the "Trample the Weak, Hurdle the Dead, Nothing but Love Songs from Uncle Ted Tour." Great versions of ALL his best stuff.

Wow, the Casino is bringing in legit acts, huh? That's good to hear.
My Brother saw this upstart Irish band there, back in 1980, about 40 people were in the room. U2, I think they were called.

From the lakes region huh? You ever catch a band called Truffle playing at the Black Cat in Laconia? They play all over the area constantly for a couple of decades now, but I know the Black Cat calls 'em up regularly.

Thanks, yea they bring in 2-3 decent bands every year. No sorry I am not familiar with Truffle. I caught Trower in a 150 person room out in Seattle once. Alan Holdsworth in a small club in MA. Small venues are the best. I sort of gave up the nightclub scene a while ago. About the only time I get out to a bar is to see my cousin's band- (Who Are) The Brain Police.

Thanks man, I have to say there is a lot to see and listen to here. I'll be playing catch up for a long while.

It is always a pleasure to sign into a new forum and be welcomed with such open arms. Gives me that warm fuzzy that is missing so often in the RW.

In a fit of inspiration I decided to learn Stranglehold. Pretty easy once you break it down into it's component parts. (at least the intro is, we'll see when I get to the lead.) After years of stagnation, I hope that this forum is a catalyst to make me better than I was as a player.

It's been a long time back, but I did a little bike racing up in NH in the late 80's, Hartford and Lake Sunapee area I think. Beautiful country!

Missed my chance to ever get a band up to CBGB's though. Heck, right now it'd be bosstastic if I could just get a gig up in Georgia (neighboring state).
