Influential Canadian Artists...

Guitar Discussion Forum - The Fret

Help Support TheFret.net:

Trev (t_ross33) already posted these guys previously, but this had to be one on my all time favourites albums growing up. Other than Trev and a hand full of others like Ted S, Helliot and Krash... I'm guessing not too many other Fretters are familiar with them.
Who says all infuences have to be good ones!

Here's a bunch of cuts from 'Frantic City'

Rush is ranked THIRD for most consecutive Gold or Platinum studio albums... behind the Beatles and the Rolling Stones!!! (I was pleasantly shocked and surprised to find this out :thumbsup ). Their tour dates consistently sell out worldwide. They are certainly riding a wave of popularity and critical acclaim right now. I'd venture to say they are the biggest and most influential Canadian group, but I'm a big fan and seriously biased :french

Not only is Joni a Canadian, spent a good deal of her early years right here in Saskatchewan!

Hey T-Ross, I'm extremely biased as well since Rush is my favorite band by a large margin. They've probably inspired more bassists and drummers than any rock band. Funny thing that most bass players and drummers look up to Geddy and Neil, but not that many guitarists would list Alex as their main influence. At least I love playing Rush on guitar as well as bass.

Dang Maxi beat me to BTO,Hey what about that Robert Renman guy?Excuse me I have to wipe this poop off my nose!LOL! Sumi:D

Shadowy Men On a Shadowy Planet.

Probably best known for this...

An excellent instrumental rock band.

That performance will send chills down your spine!
KD easily has the best voice from Canada, IMO.

+1. She did a duet with Roy Orbison on "Crying", and it still sends chills up my spine.

Big thumbs up for Triumph and Rush, too. They provided a healthy chunk of the soundtrack for my life during high school, and beyond.

Well I gave you Canuckleheads a long chance,The Tele Master,Roy BuchananSumi:D:digit

It took this long to get to this one. I'm ashamed of myself.

One of the greatest bands ever.

Here's one that might surprise a few folks here:

Which reminds me of a couple more local pickers and grinners... Freddie hosts an annual Guitar Camp about an hour North of here and Redd was one of the guest instructors this past year (damn.... couldn't make it!!!). Anyway, I give you Freddie Pelletier and his son Clinton:

:AOK Blaze, the Stampeders bring back so many fond memeories of the car radio when we were young... great post!

And Trev... keep posting artists like Wide Mouth Mason that come out of the great province of Saskatchewan!

I've appreciated all the posts in this little thread, and I hope more will kick in with some they consider their favourites! :applause

Queen City Kids (from Regina, Saskatchewan - the "Queen City) :dance
