Howdy, all,
This seems like a great community of folks - glad that Robert pointed the way on his site. Robert's been my intro to on-line guitar communication, as well as someone who has taught me quite a bit through his videos - thanks Robert! I found his sight while looking for reviews of the Squire Telecaster - he sure made it sound good!
I started playing the guitar a few years ago to use in the classroom with my students (we sing every day). Until last summer, I used a borrowed Aria classical, but I finally wanted a steel string, and bought, on very short notice via Ebay, an Art & Lutherie cedar top - I lucked out, it is a lovely guitar. But that started the urge for an electric... you know, that lingering fantasy from high school! My dream electric had always been a tele - not sure why, but I think it has to do with Let It Be and George Harrison (more on that later). So, after Robert's bravura display, I ordered one immediately and have been enjoying it - though I'm not quite sure that it's 'my' sound.
Then came the winter doldrums, and a late night on Ebay, and the 'other' guitar I had always imagined - again, under the influence of Let It Be - a hollow-body ES-335 or similar (only realized later that Lennon's was a Casino or something else). Anyways, there was this beautiful Washburn HB-30 deluxe, with a low bid - "I'll never get it for this price" I told myself - but low and behold, I did... Oh, oh - ANOTHER guitar, and here I can hardly play...! My wife was amused and forgiving...
Then lastly, someone sent me a link to the Music 123 sale, and the then $30. Fullerton strat. Why, hadn't I just seen Robert taking his for a spin a few days before. Yes, I must!; NO, this is ridiculous! the two little guys on my shoulders battled it out for awhile, and then I saw how fast they were selling - last chance! So, now I own three electrics and two acoustics... How embarassing - especially when someone comes over and my wife gives them the whole story (good-naturedly, fortunately).
Most of the time, I play the electrics with headphones through a Digitech RP50 modeling pedal, and when no one is home, a behringer practice amp.
So there you have it - more than you ever would have wanted to know; but perhaps it 'resonates' with some of you folks (ouch! and he ends with a bad pun! Hope you don't kick me out now.)
