Kitchen remodel...

Nicely on the way! Here's a few pics. Just started the whole thing on Friday:

Had to drill thru a thick wall.

Current shape. I had to rebuild a drywall behind, then re-run all the electrics, make an exhaust hole, wallpaper the entire room and lay in new laminate flooring. Of course remove the old kitchen first.

Now I have lights working, cupboards installed, electric sockets etc...tomorrow will start tiling the back wall and instaling the actual counter etc.

Cross-section of the house wall. Almost 1:1, the only thing is I had to make the wood cutter part thinner than it actually is. It is actually the same thickness as the fiberglass layer. I counted 13 different layers

Wow, so that is how you keep the house warm during long winters.

This looks like a big project. You have much more ambition than I. Mine died when I started working nights.

The trick is to just jump into it headlong...I kept telling myself it's just an easy task, maybe a day or two...and when the stuff arrived and was carried in, I had this moment of great desperation that this is never gonna work, it's gonna take weeks...but, when it's at that point there is no choice and you just have to start busting *** and working every free moment...and then you suddenly realize you're already halfway there. My wife's been doing a helluva lot of the work, too. The only real difficulty is having the kids 'help' and run around here at any given time.

Wow, those are some thick walls! I bet they are also rather soundproof too which must be a nice bonus.

Sure...triple glass Windows also help with noise, and it's a real quiet neighborhood anyway. We prolly make the most noise round heee...

Pretty much ready now. Just missing a few handles, the dishwasher and exhaust hood, dunno when they'll be delivered. But they're a ten minute job to install, I ran waterlines for them already etc.

Nice job! Were these pre-fabricated modular cabinets? They can be fairly affordable.

Yep. I don't think there is any other way really here...I see in the movies that in the U.S. kitchens are sometimes actually built, but never here. We asked for offers from many makers and this waz the best price/quality ratio. Cost about $11.000 only because I did all the work mezelf Could have easily been twice that, or triple if bought installed.

We did consider an Ikea kitchen for a while, that would have been cheaper, but we went with a local manufacturer.

Sure is cool to have all these modern things like all doors with brakes etc. we didn't have before
