One of my daughters friends is interested in buying my Washburn, but I am reluctant to sell it. I would like to give the kid a lesson in buying a guitar, so he can make wise decisions now and in the future.

The kid just stares at the Washburn and was only at the house when the pups were being swapped out, so he has yet to hear it play. Essentially he is caught up in "eye candy". To be fair to him, I want him to go out and test drive some other guitars. I think if I keep him in the $250 to $375, I will be directing him in his price range.

I know Epi has some models that would catch his interest as it relates to body style (LP), but I would want to suggest some others. He has a Squier Strat, but he is not pleased with it (most likely the very low end of Squier). Another one I was thinking is the Ibanez ART100 ($299).

Any suggestions?

Edit: I just checked out the ART100 and they have a new color being released (previously only black, silver, or white)

It has me gassing - maybe I will sell the Washburn and buy one of the ART100's:D

Mark, as long as you keep him away from pointy guitars, he'll be ok.
Might poke his eye out.

Define "inexpensive"?
I'm getting a new model LP Ultra so my other Ultra will be up for grabs.

Bam!

Old pic w/old-man ponytail... sans goatee & moustache, (which have since somehow reappeared !)

Ultra is an unusually great rocker/blues unit... the chambered body gives it a very unique growl and the contoured backside makes it extremely comfortable:

Oh... and a full lb lighter than standard LP with slippery satin neck.

Ok Strum.. Stop messing around and buy the damn thing. :poke:

You know you're going to.

Killer guitar, rocket endorsed, how can you miss. :D

Meh, suits me... it'll sell easy enough.

it was humor, but obviously a failed attempt. If you recall, I am anal about guitar weight and like them light (so I can spin them around my neck).

I already started hinting to my wife - got the evil eye. Any of you ever seen the evil eye? Can scare the crap out of ya.

Oh and keel, my wife said to tell you to - shut up!!!

I knew it was a joke... I'm still laughing on inside.

Tell wife it's for her... works for me!

New Git

Well Strum....I am LMAO over this and how you might wind up with the git instead of your daughter's friend...:rotflmao:.....however, DVM is right, what about the young man?.....to that end, how about XAVIERE guitars??
They seem to have a good rep around here........and if he doesn't like it, you'll probably fall in love with it and take it off his hands. :D :poke:

Agile's not a bad little Korean brand, either.
You and the boy could sit down and pick together when you get your new axe..................

Don't I recall mention of some kid who wanted a guitar back around the start of this thread? :thwap:

You're right. He wanted the Washburn and the RP350 and that isn't a dead issue. I want him to go out and look at some of the guitars suggested early on in this thread. It would be nice if he purchased my Washburn and RP350, but I want him to learn not to be attracted to eye candy. Although at times I may not be the one to teach that, all of my guitars can be sold for more than I paid for them. I could have easily pushed the purchase, but despite what the perception is here, I am not going to just focus on a sale.

As for the LP, I may have to reluctantly pass this time around. It isn't the first time I had to walk away, and it won't be the last. Despite that, the pain never seems to lessen.

My concern with Agile, he can't test drive one.

I've heard good and bad about Agile (as with many brands). My other issue with them, people seem to accept the flaws. That would be ok if they told you about the flaws up front. However, I do read here and other forums where people are happy with them.
