This is my cousin's daughter, Marian Call. I have not seen her for some time since we moved away from Western WA, and now she is out performing and promoting. I think she has some talent vocally (understatement). Her family is very musical. Let me know what you think. Two she wrote plus a cover.
Thanks for checking it out Strummy. Here is a write up in the Gig Harbor paper(where my folks live and she is from) about her musical history. Like I said, she comes from a musical background and I bet she does something with it. Getting into popular folk music is pretty new for her apparently.
I enjoyed it.
She has a nice voice, a quick wit, and good musician's accompanying her.
I bet she makes a go of it if she decides to stick with it as a career.
I'm listening to the rest of the clips in the background while surfing the net. To sum it up - I'm still applauding.:bravo: :bravo: :bravo: :bravo:

She got picked for "Song of the Day" (for "Eclectic Tuesday") by music industry blogger Jody Whitesides of Los Angeles. The blog entry was titled "Not for Paris Hilton." Pretty cool.
Click on the song as you read. It is fun. My first cousin, (the artist's Mom) is playing the clarinet. She taught be to draw "Snoopy and the Red Baron" cartoons as a kid, but I digress. ;-)
Please excuse my indulgence, or indulge my excuse or something like that. I'm just proud of her.
SVL....did you come over here from the W? Did you post something similar about her about a year ago or so....or am I having a weird deja vu thing for nothing?
I am reviving this old thread because Marian stopped by for a visit (we had not seen each other in person in years), and put on a "House Concert" at our home during her tour, where she is traveling by car to perform in all 50 states if possible. (I guess Hawaii by car is out of the question).
We had a nice, but too short visit, as I was gone for part of it on a scout backpack with my son. She and Brian played soccer with the kids, hung out, and it was really great to see them.
She is classically trained, having studied music and chorale at Stanford, and has performed in some sense for most of her life.
She has really developed in style, confidence and soul in my opinion since the above recordings that were from when she was starting out two years ago. It was a really nice show in our living room, and I have to say I was pretty blown away. If she comes by your town as she is traveling, I would recommend that you go see her. I would make the recommendation even if she was not my cousin too. A wonderful mix of humor, good songwriting, good lyrics, amazing voice, and some good playing too. Also, if you go see her, ask her about Zippy the cat.
I see she's playing Bellingham the week after I'm there for a visit. Damn the luck! I'll put the word out to my friends that they should go check her out. If she doesn't have a location yet, you might suggest she talk to Boundary Bay Brewery and Bistro. One of my favorite places, and they have outdoor and indoor music most weekends.

Good suggestion. I will pass it along. She is originally from Gig Harbor, and may have her own ideas, but doesn't hurt to suggest. Also, a mighty fine IPA can be found there!

Well guess who showed up in this week's CD Baby email?
Marian Call Something Fierce Pop: Folky Pop This is Call’s much-anticipated third album, funded entirely by fans and informed by experiences on her 50-State Tour of the U.S. (Canada too!). Marian is a music theory junkie and a proud poetry nerd, and both passions are indulged completely on this record. http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/mariancall4?utm_source=DiscoverMusic&utm_medium=Email&utm_campaign=DM012512
:AOK That's a good one! A good collection of songs she has been touring with over the last couple years. Cool!
Hah, music theory junky, well I guess if you graduate from Stanford with a degree in music and focusing on chorale. She is very funny, and her humor shows in her tunes.
