Mary Travers of Peter, Paul & Mary died today. Yes, I'm old enough to still have some of their 45s and remember watching them perform in the 60s. Many of our greats are getting up in years and to hear that Henry Gibson died today too.

Very sad news. One of the great voices from the 60's folk movement.

I loved Puff the Magic Dragon. Sad to hear.

I also really liked Henry Gibson. I used to watch reruns of Laugh In on Nickelodeon. Funny stuff!

Here's an Obit, for all you younger whipper-snappers...
Mary Travers Obit on MSNBC

It seems like I've been reminded too many times of my potential mortality this past year, as those I grew up admiring continue to pass on to 'the other side'.

Morbid, I know, but who'll be next?:whatever:

Man, I loved Peter, Paul and Mary. I remember the first time I heard Puff, The Magic Dragon. Thanks to folk heroes like them, I developed, early on, a love of folk music and vocal harmony that I carry to this day.

As has been mentioned, so many of the greats of my generation are leaving us, and more rapidly as time seems to speed up. It has been said that time waits for no man...we're all human, and, in the end, no matter what we've accomplished, we will all meet the same end. It's only natural, I suppose, but still...

Met her in the 60's before the Hippie culture.
She was sooo beautiful.

Yeah, TPC, she was beautiful, both physically and a true "earth mother". The younger fretters probably never heard that phrase, but in those magical days, that was the highest compliment a woman could receive. Ah, those were the best of times...

I lived for a while on Bronson Street/Sunset Bl near several of the local TV stations.
Lot's of live TV and music shows in those days.
If ya dressed halfway decent and behaved they'd let the locals kids in.

Peter Paul and Mary were guests every now and then.
Mary was always genuine and shook hands with, and talked or danced with anyone.

Really a sweet, charming person.

I did not take time to post to this when Ms. Travers passed for some reason, though I was saddened, and remembered P,P, and M songs as a kid.

I was watching a PBS special running tonight which focused quite a bit on Mary's thoughts and words. What a wonderful, loving, optimistic woman! There was one moment when she covered a John Denver tune (For Baby) with her grand daughter on her lap. Very touching.

Though I like to make fun of 60s style folk music sometimes, and relate to Cracker's lyrics regarding the same, I have to respect her, and her group's endless, and thus optimistic, work. She will be missed.

Yep ,i remember PP&M ,Puff the magic dragon etc...RIP Mary Travers..

We had our own Mary Travers aka ''La Bolduc'' (singer too) in Quebec in the past..
She sang in a very special blend of folk and (hum!) Jazz scatt maybe, call ''La Turlutte'' ..
